bad result canvassing
« on: February 18, 2009, 05:14:41 pm »
Done a whole village yesterday, approx 280 homes, not one job :'(  + 1 ignorant tool that told me to p*ss off and get a real job, whats that about cheeky sod.
Speaking to a wc today while leafletting and he was telling me of a few people he knows have started up recently, got nothing so packed up already. Its tough out there at the mo but ya gotta keep plugging away i guess.

This is what I did when I first started. Knock only three doors in a street but they must be a distance apart. If I get the same reponse then it is a waste of time canavassing the area.

If you get a response the carry on as you will probably find more. Don't waste your time canvassing a whole street if no repsonse first few doors as it will be probaby the same response for all.

Use your time more wisely in trying to find streets where they don't have a window cleaner.

This I found worked for me.

Wow, that takes bottle to stick THAT much rejection away. Do yourself a favour and remember the address of the joker that told you to pßß off, go back when you have a bigger biz and ask him again if he wants his windows done. He who laughs last.... Who cares what he thinks. Keep going mate.

By the way, what are you saying to the people when they open the door? What's their reply? Did you get an answer at every door?

Canvassing is about numbers - None today 20 tomorrow. Seriously dont worry about ONE bad result work out the average. As I have said before canvassing for me brings an average of 2 customers per hour however that does not mean thats how it works. Some nights I might get nothing and the next 20, to me it really doesn't matter as long as I hit the average ie if I do 10 hours canvassing I expect that to bring in 20 customers. Only if this average was compromised would I worry ;)

Maybe not - he might just be canvassing an area that is well served by window cleaners. As I said keep at it for a couple of weeks and then look at the averages. If you haven't hit at least 50% of my target THEN you are doing something wrong!

This is the same question I would ask you.

I go in my company uniform, clipboard in hand and when they open the door i firstly ask if they have a wc, if they say yes then i bid them farewell, if they say no then i ask them if they would like a reliable professional window cleaner.
Some said they had one and were happy with him, some said they did their own and the rest said they were not interested.
I believe i sounded ok during my pitch so hopefully just a one off.
Any of you tried the Kev Dubrosky flashy type flyers with any success?

Ive been out lefleting and door knocking but have found most of the areas Ive hit have already got a w/c. got 1 out of about 100.

Had a call yesterday to quote a job in a street Ive not hit before.
Picked up 3 jobs. Just goes to show. W/c had not been seen since Oct last year.

Just goes to show you cannot give up if you want the business.

Ive seen seen so many more w/c around in my area. Must be business out there still or they would all be packing up.

Good luck mate just keep doing it.

Must say, that sounds right to me Steve. The way I do it is, I stick a flyer with my company logo on it and a text like this; Dear sir/madam, we have been established since 1989 providing a window cleaning service in nearby areas including such customers as BFBS (well known radio stn over here in Germany) and KRAFT foods. With nearly 20 years of experience, we promise a very good, friendly and reliable service.
We will be expanding our service to your area in the very near future and will be calling on you soon to see if you are interested and answer any questions you may have.
Within 3 days of the flyer being dropped, I call and say: Hello, RPG Service, did you get our flyer? ........ you know the rest. This has pulled me a 30% hit rate.
Hope this has helped.
