Hi there - I have been slowly building a round up on a weekend using the traditional method. I am now looking to buy a reach and wash system for a van and wondered how big a tank I would require for a full days work if I can't fill up during the day at customers.

Also I would apprecaite and advice on which system to go for and or pitfalls to watch out for.

Hi mate, dont bother with contacting ionics far too expensive. infact dont bother with any company, i can tell you exactly what to get and build it yourself, its really easy i wish i had done that. i got a 400ltr tank in the van and that usually sees me through a good day but i only pole the tops i trad the bottoms, its alot quicker and customers are alot more happy with that. if you wanna know more just reply to this. unless youve already took a mortgage out with ionics.  j demarco

Many on here will say you need a 650L tank for one man operation for a full (8 hour) day.

Last year I would have agreed - and if you are mainly commercial still would - but have found that by using fan jets/varistream and practice that a 400L is enough for me on all but the most busy summer days. On domestic today I used 225litres between 10.00 am and 3.30 pm. (I know - a lazy day!) Had I worked at the same pace from 9 to 4.30 I would prolly have used 300/350.

If I have a really long day away from home then I might stick 2 x 25L barrels in the front footwell.

(I use a Fiat Doblo van with 736kg payload - for a full 650L I would want a Scudo with 900kg payload as a minimum for one operator.)

ok mate. some bits and pieces you have to buy from the company like the varistream control, i used pure freedom there pretty competitive. buy your own pump shureflo 100 psi. you need a leisure battery about 60 / 70 quid. have you got the frame work for the 45o ltr tank just to keep it from sliding around and drill it to your van. if your an engineer you can put the frame work together to secure your tank. 100mtr hose 8mm not 6mm cos it kinks. the hose spool look on ebay for that, theres 1 for 118 quid hose and spool. get yourself a whatever size pole depending on how high your cleaning i got 24ft and that gets me 3 storey and any windows over roofs. some people invest stupid amounts on the kit when theres no need less overheads the better aslong as the kit works its all pure water at the end of the day. so then you need to purify the water so your gonna need an ro unit from pure freedom again about 220 poss on ebay. a di vessel for after the ro unit with some resin which you fill the di unit with and then from the di  to a 1000ltr holding tank. some go straight to the van but i prefer a holding tank and then just a garden pond pump  in the bottom of the 1000ltr holding tank with just a normal garden hose which you use to transfer the pure water to the 450ltr tank in the van. then you will need all the smaller clamps male and fem fittings and jubilee clips and things. sorry if im a bit waffly im nackered from work.
it all sounds really confusing but its really not. if i get chance over weekend ill check out all the stuff on ebay and various places so its a bit more organized with prices. Im starting to confuse myself....  Jay

i just did the exact same thing last weekend after going ever all the prices from companies fitting em for  you. i thought, its not worth all that but maybe i wish i had overall. i had so many teething troubles it was gettin on my gromits.

heres what i did (if you want to follow my lead!) its working ok now.....

i got a pump and controller for £150 from pure freedom
650litre tank from another shop on ebay for £200 (u might want smaller if you have a small van)
the tricoflex reel at £118 (10pnp) someone else suggested it ok, not brilliant.
a di vessel £80
u need to check your tds from your water you may not need an ro unless it above what 80?
i run it straight from the van battery save you 80 quid on the leisure battery its never took anything offf the charge in the battery even if your not moving it much.
ratchet straps for £15 off ebay (5tonne)
you'll know how to secure em under the van if your an engineer.
a fused switch £5
and some and some jubilee clips n o rings for securing the fittings.
one thing you have to make sure the pipe is fitted perfect from the tank outlet to the pump, you cant let air in or water out. im sure others will make suggestions different but thats how i  just did it and its  working well. (now!)

A 400ltr tank will do most people.
I have a 650 and it usually lasts a couple of days.

When you first start with WFP you will use a lot more water than someone who has been using it a while.

I probably use more water than I should but I don't use an electronic flow controller.  I just have it switched on pretty full at the tank end and throttle the flow (sometimes) at the pole end.  If I've got the water there, I prefer to have a highish flow rate as there is less chance of the job being flawed IMO.  I am able to carry up to 750 litres of water which is more than I would use in a day anyway.

Setting one for me too, (newer digital version with 100psi pump) any higher than that & it's bouncing off the glass!
