Sergio, If you get £700 for the job then you are doing well. If you get £1500 then you are doing incredibly well. Good luck

It might take 5 mins to clean but add another few minutes for chair management.  Have you ever seen 150 chairs in once space.  Its a lot.  Also you might find this is over a few floors etc etc.

Id say you price is fine.

Mark

PS. if they can move all the chairs into one big room so your cleaning rows of chairs then offer a discount.

Hi Joe,

of course I will.
When this company called last week they told me that last year they have been charged only 5 pounds per chair. Is that a normal price for a large quantity?

Regards
Sergio

What is a standard office chair?
High back, low back, arms or none?

If manager was happy with last years £5 (assuming it to be true) and if that cleaner is about again then he is going to be setting the pace.

You need to determine what's an " office " We have office chairs that cost less than £20, but others might cost £120, also some have very little upholstery to clean, others might be like a small lounge suite.

Sergio,
Depending on whether its just bum /bum and back/bum back and sides ,also are the chairs stained? coffee, tea, food etc .If it's just bums, I'd you 'd go for a fiver/chair.  Also if you do get the job and it's wooden floors make sure you have a dust sheet with you .Did a restaurant job a few years back with some other guy ,the section he was working got absolutely soaked and the floor bowed (he didn't use a dust sheet needless to say )

I've recently done an 80 chair clean @ £4. just squab and one side of backrest.  Regular custy, not very dirty (regular job) all chairs moved for me to one big conference room. Two of us (me and daughter) 6 hours.

Tip of the day.
Use polythene base sheets and cotton drop sheets on top, or some similar arrangement. You can get a lot of overspray from the prep.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

I'd go with Ken on the floor protection, would not trust just cotton sheets.
As far as the price is concerned, I'd go in at £6 each and try for protection treatment as well at £3.  You should easily manage to average out 6 chairs per hour if they are all in 1 room, and you have a chair moving person.

They get a bit monotonous after the first 6 hours don't they Ken.  But a very nice profit.  Of course the replacement value of the chair should be taken into consideration when pricing.

Nah Mark

Not with the amount of carpet work they give me.

If the chairs had to be cleaned both sides of the backrest and had arms too, then I'd be charging £6 for that with volume, and more if we had to fetch and carry ourselves.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

I think they'll laugh at you for £10 a chair, to be honest.

I did 52 chairs a little while ago, seat and one sided back pad.  All in one room (a village hall) with plenty of space to work in.  I charged £4 per chair and it was at least as profitable as carpet cleaning, and the chairs were very grotty too - thorough pre-spray & extraction needed, not just a quick "whip over".  I'll charge them similar next time but benefit from having less work to do for my money :)

I'd have gone in a little higher if it was on a different job and the chairs were all in different places.  These chairs I cleaned would cost about £22+VAT to replace, that was the first thing I checked before quoting!

As said above DO NOT underestimate the handling of the chairs!!  You'll probably end up picking up and putting down each chair at least 4 times by the end of the job.  It all adds up!

I prefer to line up two rows of 5 chairs facing each other, spaced out a little bit. Then go along them vaccing, pre-spraying and extracting.

You can choose to either get a sore back by standing behind them and leaning over to do the backs, or sore knees and wrist-ache by kneeling down in front of them to do the backs, using horizontal extraction strokes :)

The most annoying thing about cleaning small chairs is that the bloody things move around whilst you're trying to clean them.  The ones on castors do my head in!  I've even considered making some sort of jig to put them in so they can't move!  That starts to really pee you off after about the 30th chair.

Good luck ;)
