Did a job for a customer on Monday evening. Son had puked up over a carpet in a small room after a binge session, and when she opened the door, it was evil.

The incident happened on Saturday night, so it was only about 48 hours old when I tackled it. I used a Prochem product, cherry Contract Carpet Deodoriser, and when I left, the room smelt like an orchard, and I was well pleased.

I phoned the customer this afternoon to see how it had progressed, and was told the cherry smell disappeared quite quickly, and there's still a feint vomit smell left. Does anyone know if there's anything else I could use which might have a better effect? I've got an Alltech product called Odour Clear, which says it's good against body fluid odours. Has anyone used this on vomit and would it be worth trying this?

Or should I just cut my losses, and say there's nothing more that can be done if it's going to be almost impossible to remove. They're not worried about the staining (although I got most of it out), it's just the smell.

Hi Mark

You may need to inject below the carpet into the underaly with a strong anti bac/enzyme

There are quite a few around we have one called Bioklenz

I dont know much about enzymes but is prochem enzyme pre-spray the same as what nick has suggested?

Or is a enzyme prespray different from a enzyme odour killer or even a enzyme spotter?

PS. now that I come to think of it I only used the pre-spray once in 3 years.  Doe s it have a shelf life?

Had the same problem on a rug last year, bicarbonate of soda from the kitchen diluted in water
worked a treat

Had similar last week with cat urine, used bio-enzyme product from Extracta, customer phoned me yesterday when they first went back to house (it's empty) and they couldn't believe the difference, all odours had vanished.  I'm sure the results would be the same with vomit.

I think if she phones me up to have it retreated, I'll go down the road of injecting directly into the underlay, to make sure I really get to the root of the problem.

Depends on what kind of vomit went in?

If it is food based then it will be less liquid, liquid based it will penetrate further. As it was a binge session it was obviously very liquid with stomach acid plus enzymes from the booze.

Sounds like it has gone deep into the carpet and probably to the underlay. go with marks suggestion and inject plus another topical deodourizer but  agitate if possible,leave to dwell for about 10-15 minutes.

If you can get rid of it, she will think you are Jesus and recommend you to all
