The only way that I can think of doing it on this type of pole and at that height which is not a lot.Is get a piece of plastic piping 3 foot long , at one end cut a grove down the centre for about 4 inches, you then place this on the end of your pole and close the grove end with a julbilee clip.It should do the job.

40mm waste pipe from B&Q.I have just adapted itI cut a section of waste pipe 6 inces long then divided this into pieces.I then cut a section of waste pipe 4 foot long.with the divided sections I used 1 julbilee clip and fixed this to end of the 4 foot pole, really tight, the end of this splint which should be 3 inches above the end of the 4 foort pole is now slightly wider, just put you excel pole into this
