« on: December 10, 2008, 09:41:38 am »
just bought a halfords fully auto battery charger, worked great for the last 2 days, been out to put battery back in van , green ready / maint. light on , but amber charging light is rapidly flashing.

any body know what this means?, cant find instructions, also there are 2 settings,
1 .gel /sealed lead acid & 2. standard battery , which setting should i use ?

Flashing light on that charger means your battery is being charged, once it's charged it will blink slowly to show that its being maintaned.

Flashing light on that charger means your battery is being charged, once it's charged it will blink slowly to show that its being maintaned.

the one i have looks a little different, from the one shown o website ,

it has 4 led's ,

1 red ( to warn of terminals connected wrong way round , before switching on .)

1 red ( power on)

i amber ( iluminates when battery is connected, and stays on when charging )

1 green ( to show battery is charged, and mainaining)

the first 2 days i used it, it showed amber light , then this goes out , and green light comes on.

the problem today was , although green led was on, amber led was flashing rapidly ( it should go out , when green led shows.),

i presume this is to show a fault of some kind .

hope this has explained my question a bit better.

Just read my instruction manual.

The yellow LED charging light will glow until the battery reaches full charge at which point the green ready and maintaining LED light comes on indicating that the charger is in maintenance mode, the charger will monitor the state of charge of the battery & switch between charge & maintenance modes to protect the battery.

So the yellow light coming on and  flashing is indicating it is maintaining your battery once its full  charged.
