Are'nt They just rubbish, i have not had my reel one year yet.... and im on my third spindle.... they crack in the middle (well mine did)... and spray water everywhere.

Never had a problem with mine,.. had it 18 months or more. Its one that is made to be bolted to the van floor, I've got it bolted to a bit of plywood so I can take it out of the van when I need to. I got mine from Arthur @ Sureclean Systems,.. but I think its a standard item that most suppliers carry.

as, to be honest... i have also gone through 2 of the U Bend connectors for the spindle too... inside the hose,

they did the same.... split lengthways down the joint...same as the spindle.

All of these metal hose reels are made in the same factory, but I think that there must have been batches recently that were not as well made as in the past. Like everything there is a pressure on firms to make them down to a cost which nearly always affects longevity. We have had to throw a lot of spindles back at the manufacturer as we have found several with faults.

They are very in-expensive so naturally are not going to last as long as a quality made item. We are looking at introducing a purpose made window cleaning metal reel early next year, it has been built and is in use. It will feature quality components that will last a lifetime with replaceable bearings and bulletproof connections. The downside will be that they will cost nearly 4 times as much as the current metal ones.

For myself I still find that the 60m Hozelock plastic and metal hose reels are very long lasting and light to use. 100m of Microbore™ is a tight fit, but if you wind carefully it's OK. I have just had to replace both of mine after 6 years of service, not bad for £27 each.

Alex, how do you get on with those grey plastic connectors - i used to wear mine out for a pastime. I think you must have your system set up perfectly 'cos i managed to blow my hozelock reels apart with water pressure in my microbore.

The only weak spot is the grey plastic connectors on the side of the reel. After a year or two I find that you need to replace just the male connector (hozelock do them in a service pack). I have found that they are more reliable when used with these female connectors though a lot less popping off.



I never worry about leaking as I always have my reels outside of the vehicle and whne they are inside they sit on a drip-tray. I have never had a problem at all with reels pulling apart, although I have heard of others who have had problems.

If you are only using 60m of Microbore™ then the smaller Hozelock reels are ideal and very light to lift in and out for domestic work. In our new van set-up we will be having 4 hose reels 2x 60m and 2x 100m. The 60m reels will be used when on domestic rounds and the 100m reels on commercial work.

Alex those half inch barbs you sent me for the DI are a 100% better than hoselock fittings,they don`t leak at all.

I will be using half inch braided hose and those barbs for all fittings from no on,i think it`s the jubilee clips that prevent leaking more.

Are those the NITO DI fittings?

The fittings Alex sent me were white clearish plastic and they completley leak proof,they have a male barb sticking out of 1 side and a half inch thread.After using these you won`t use hoselock fittings again.

Must be a pain changing the resin, or giving the di a good shake? With the NITO fittings, it's very easy. And they are 100 PSI leakproof, expensive, but absolutely worth it.
