How Well Does Your Customer Know You
« on: November 08, 2008, 11:58:17 pm »
Are you known as the window cleaner or do they know your name. I would say around 80% call me by my name, the rest it's the "window cleaner" ;D

Unless you tell them they're not going to know.

I've got some who've sat me down with a cup of tea every month for 11 years, but I doubt they know my name. ;D

Most do but on cheques it's often "is it gould or gold?" Don't mind that....

A few in one area where a w/c upped sticks and left calls me Graham (name of previous w/c)
One even calls me Sean (name of previous to the previous w/c!!)
One calls me Gary - no idea why at all, I just let it pass. ::)
It's a game of three halves!

I'd say most know my 'real name', a lot know my nick-name (Tosh), and one bloke for some reason calls me George; though he's not all there.

I would say I know 95% of my customers names since I've always made an effort to remember them.

I always try to remember customers names and they seem to know mine. It is easy for them though - my name is splashed all over the front and back of my uniform.  :)

Chat to them about their families, my family, their car, etc as well which helps build the relationship.
Do all the good you can, and make as little fuss about it as possible.

I've got one who thinks I'm called Gary, and I'm sure there used to be another one.

Must be generic "window cleaner name" or something!

i've got a few who do that, usually the older ones , used to tell them my real name , but still insist on calling me another name.

One of my customers told me her husband had been diagnosed with the big C even before they had told their family, I must have been there at the right/wrong time and she just had to tell someone, poor woman, still do their windows and i never mentioned it again, customer confidentiality

Most know my name, its on my van, web-site, flyers etc.

I had one tell me SHE had the big C 10 minutes after the quack came round to break the news to her.

She was gutted, broke down in tears on the back patio with me; in shock I thought.

She was lovely lady actually, very friendly, nice. Always had time to talk and show consideration.

Just her husband there the next time I went round.

when i first started, a window cleaner (old chap been doing windows for over 40yrs) gave me advice similar to this,

he said when you go to clean a new house, they won't know you from adam , so a bit of small talk will help break the ice,

it also builds a good long term working relationship.
