Isn't this post a bit like asking, 'What Car is Best?"

Some people may think performance is the best, others may think a posh brand is best, others may think that an economical and reliable car is best and others may think a yellow-coloured car is the best.

I dont need people to get into an argument on what pole they think is best, i would just like some feedback on all the different pole's out there, then make my own mind up which brand to go to next.
cheers all

I went to brodex recently & they have a new hi-breed carbon/glass pole that look very good. The prices i was quoted were half ionics. I also use a mixture of Tucker, Ionics, Brodex & normal fibreglass.

The best pole for me upto 30ft is Tucker with pennel clamps, but, thats my opinion of the complete pole taking every thing into consideration. Pole sections, clamps, brush, gooseneck, hose & on/off tap.

If you can convert brodex to Tucker working parts you would have an excellent pole.

Totally agree with Tosh here.  A lot depends on what sort of work you have, how your body copes, and what sort of work you want to get.  My main pole is an SLX but I have work where an SL2 is more suitable (height).  I sometimes pull the Ionics 18ft multipole out (stiffer bristles and better for some very dirty first cleans) and there are occasions when I still use my 36ft powerpole because I find that a high dirty first clean sometimes needs a bit of beef behind it.  It's also good to have a heavy pole in the armoury for windy days.

How high did you want to go and how often.  If you've got lots of runs of windows at say 35-60ft then a modular would probably be a good idea and also a lot cheaper than ionics.  If your only speaking up too say 30ft then there are many other poles that would be good.  Xtel sl-x and so on.

Also how tall are you as some of the poles have longer sections making them harder to use if you are a shortie like me.  Are you bothered about a hard wearing pole, something aluminum will last for years but will be heavier than a carbon fiber.

Simon.

I used to have a full set of Ionics brushes and have replaced them all for 12' SL-X (which I will eventually replace for a shorter one - think its 7') for ground floor, A 17' SLX for 1st floor (but I wish it was an extra 2' longer so I can reach third floor windows) and a 60' SL2.

I find that the SLX poles are a good weight, last longer than Ionics and are much better priced. The SL2 is a fantastic weight and good value but you have to be so careful as the female ends to each section are very brittle and can chip if they get knocked on pavement. I have a set of endcaps that will prevent this from happening but its time consuming taking them on and off so I leave them off and store them inside each other protected in a plastic tube (drainpipe) in my van.

Ive held all these poles at shows, shops and at friends. Ive held all the Ionic carbon poles up to 40ft, all the hybrid xtels up to 40ft, all the Facelift ones to 45ft, the Unger Modular to 40ft, Carbonized modular to about 25ft, Emporium to 50ft and the SL2 at all heights to 60ft

If were talking over 25ft work then the best telescopic is the Facelift IMO, and the best modular is the SL2 IMO. But I would buy the SL2... which I did! All the Telescopics and Unger modular weigh more than the SL2. The Emporium is lighter than the SL2 but not as strong.

And theres another option. Converting an f16 fishing pole into a light modular like the sl2. Ive held Jeff Brimbles one to 40 odd ft and its VERY light and stiff. And that works for Jeff!! But maybe if your not such a careful person ( like myself ) then a SL2 is the one!

Oh and if were talking under 30ft then the SL-X or Facelift carbons are the ones to buy. I prefer the SL-X myself

I have'nt had the Emporium 45ft pole for long so still testing. I have used it solid at 45ft for half a day and it's nice to work with, don't like the bently brush though. So put a salmon  ;D . It looks like it's built well with blue wrap over the carbon but time will tell !

Sounds like you could do with retro-fitting a set of SL2 Protecta-Rings, these protect the female ends from normal use and now come as standard on all SL-2 poles

oops! I meant the male end can chip and NOT the female end! I've got the protecta-rings on the female end and they work great! I have a little chip on one of the male ends but at the moment its not causing me any problems, but id it did what would be the max I could hacksaw off or should I just file it down?

Each section off the  Emporium  pole has protecta rings on the female end and on the male end they have what looks like a dome insert made of plastic. I think this helps strenghten the end as well as protect it.  ;D

Think you might be able to buy the inserts from tackle shops. Luke what's the prolong like? Is it bendy or heavy and indestructable?

I have got both SL2 and SLX poles, as well as ionics and tucker,
I seem to use the SlX mostly up to 30 foot and anything higher the modular SL2. However if I need a first clean doing  Ifind the tucker pole and brush better perhaps the extra weight of the pole and density of the brush helps in these situations. Also when windy this pole is easier to contain when gusts occur. But on a good day you wont beat the gardiner poles you feel as though its cheating as they are so easy to use I hope this assists you
