Hi all.
I was extremely motivated to make a go at establishing my own window cleaning business after reading all your posts on this forum. I was even more encouraged by the fact so many windows were dirty when I walked around my area to check!
Then it hit me that most of these were detached (3 storey) houses and me being a newbie found myself wanting to buy a trolley system (less dangerous
)
I must add though, it would save me lugging a ladder around as Im still learning to drive.
So what do you guy's/girl's think, am I running before I can walk? or does it seem the logical thing to do, after all so many people are saying this is the way forward in the industry.
I quite like the look of the STRATA FREEDOM trolley. Also what other equipment would I need to purchase.
Thank you for taking the time out to read this.
Rob
Seriously, if you have never done it before, then yes you could be chewing off more than you can swallow.
Best way to get into the business, is find some one that needs a part time guy. You learn the basics of trad and wfp off them, and the tricks of the trade. Get to meet customers and learn to build a rapport with them.
When you have some money like £1000 behind you, you can then buy your gear and try it yourself whilst still working for the other guy. Eventually if you make a go of things on your own ok, you may decide to leave them, however, be courteous and dont steal their customers or tread too far into their areas, you dont want a turf war from the guy that helped you out in the first place.
Your gonna need to learn to drive. WFP uses alot of water. Just because you use a trolley system doesn't mean you can cart it about, you need a few jerry cans full in your van/car for they day.
Cleaning windows is only half the job for a new guy, you really need to put a lot of time into it, drumming up business, going door knocking, getting lots of "no thanks, i dont need or i have a window cleaner" which can be soul destroying for a newbie. Many people have dirty windows for a reason, they cant afford a window cleaner, or they dont want a window cleaner. Only a small percentage have dirty windows cos they dont know who to ask.
If you live in North London, Enfield way, i know my cousin is always needing an extra hand.
