The amount of things you get asked to do when up a ladder, I've had a few.

Paint that bit of wood work
Empty the gutter
Wash that cladding
Clean the con roof

all of them, "seeing as your up there could you just".  I've had the odd, do you mind just cutting my grass as well.  That's the good thing about the pole, people manage to put 2 and 2 together and realize it won't clean the gutters out.

Simon.

If they are pensioners i do it without a problem. Although 1 or 2 i eventually charged cos the little favours became larger and more regular.
If they aren't pensioners i will nearly always put a price on it.
I have refused to do many jobs though. Because of not having the skill or it will put me at risk.
But, i don't mind helping out if i can. As long as it won't interfere with me finishing the days schedule.
What goes around comes around i reckon.

i always charge for extras, then you both know where you stand, never do anything for free , as they always take advantage of your good nature.

If they make tea I don't mind doing a quick favour.  If they don't, no chance.

I bet you learnt this from experience.

I used to clean a customer's house - quite a large one - and she was severely crippled with MS.

After the initial clean she asked if I could clean the inside front room bay window and the kitchen window; which I did; 'no extra charge, Madam'.

The following month, 'Oh, can you do the inside patio doors', and the following month I was asked to do another inside window.  I reckon over a year I cleaned the whole of her house, including the kitchen window (every-other-month) for free!!!

I made a rod for my own back.

She's dead now, she was a lovely customer though and I have no regrets from doing these favours for her, since I've learnt not to be such a soft touch.

Tosh, I've got an old biddy custy who's 90 and going blind - I do her inside patio's, inside porch and kitchen cuz that's what I did when I knew no better.

Her daughter who lives next door to her and who is a sour-faced old bovine did a "not to day it might rain" about 3 years ago and I've not been back since.

If they're an elderly/infirm/give me a cuppa/pay for their neighbour type I cut them some slack - but if I think they're being unreasonable then 'bye 'bye.
It's a game of three halves!

If asked anything about gutters, I say "I will have to come back and book you in, I only do gutters when I have caught up with the rounds"
and
"I will have to have a look at them before I quote you"
