I carry a double 3.0m pointer inside my Ducato.  I've made a rack fitted up under the roof - the top of the ladder extends forward over the passenger seat and the feet are just inside the back door.

Much easier than trying to get it up on the roof, and a lot more secure :)

Only snag: tall passengers are liable to bang their heads ;D

Or you could get those telescopic ladders they do now. They even fit in the boot of a car. They were on offer in macro until tuesday! Offer price was £79.99 now £99.99.
The one they had extended to 3.7m and closed to 88cm. I am sure if you search the net you'll find they do other models.

Thats what i have done i just made two runners that bolted to the roof supports and the ladders(Ramsays) fit just snug the feet are just at the passengers head height
This is what i wanted so everything is in the van and much safer
Mine is also a SWB Transit

Thanks LWC beat me to it! Yeah the offer ended on tuesday but they seem to be on offer there quite often (they often repeat the offers) this time it's the turn of the scaffold ladder:  www.makro.co.uk/metro_mail/mcc-uk/catalog/1101370/Mail19NonFood_48pp.pdf

And plenty available just looked and one gut's got 94 in stock another 149. Appear to be lying about the free delivery though, when you read it despite saying free delivery in the item description the two i just looked at both wanted £9.80 for delivery!

Watch out if you buy telescopics. I have heard that there is a risk of cutting your fingers off if you don't clamp them firmly enough  :o

Got a ladder from Wickes nearly 3 years ago. They fold into 4, so fit nicely on top of my tank with bungee chords. They reach to just below an upstairs window when fully extended so only really good for access over garage roofs or used as an A frame but I would never be without them! Got trebles at home to use when I need them but my wickes sprecail does the job most of the time.
