was going to use protecta kote, but now considering fibre glass, who has done it?, what are the advantages?, and how long would it take to do a scudo van floor?. any info /pics of finished floor would be great, cheers lads.

I dont understand the advantage of a fibre glass floor, maybe somebody could explain? But protektacote is very very good and quick, Luke

ive just done mine,

is it worth it, yes it is,

i bought mine from ebay and it looks much harder wearing that protecktacote, it makes a brand new layer rather than just covering the floor,

it takes a little bit of getting use to when applying it, i would take a weekend to do it if i did it again, but for around £60 to do a transit van its pretty good

my dad fiberglassed his roof 20years ago and it is still going strong, much better than felt, and it an van you can build up the sides so making a valley as it where and a draining point for reels etc etc if you want

I do quite a lot of grp work - roofs and manhole rehab , I get all my gear from a firm called CFS in cornwall. Just make sure any welding is done before the glassing as its a pain afterwards

i fibreglassed my van and dont regret it

if you want pics my van is for sale on stuff 4 sale page and there is a pic of the floor there if that helps.

i put lips on the back and side doors to create a tray effect, and then a drainhole with a pieice of plastice pipe down it, fibre glassed over it all and it is water tight! you can spill as much as you want and it all goes down the drainhole. i wash it out with hot soapy water at the weekend and you can chuck water around in it fine.

i did it myself last time - but next time will be getting a firm to do it - its easier 

got a quote for a toyota hiace size van - to ply floor and box in wheel arches, put lips around and 2 drainholes was about 400 + vat.

it is cheaper to do it yourself if you have the patience

it will be a better job than protectakote but the smell of it will knock you out for a few weeks

just looked at pics of van floor , looks very pro.
what did you form lip with?
where did you buy it ?
did you remove ply floor ?
how long did it take to do ?

1 - plied out the back end with thick ply on floor and boxed in the wheel arches - ply the sides too. if your van is already plied and it is clean, leave it on and you'll be fine.
2 - the lips are formed by simple wooden baton, 2 x 1 inch batons, screwed into the ply
3-then i put about 3 layers of blue fbre glass on to start with, but i added more at xmas to make it smoother. i fibreglassed above the wheel arches out of choice to make it watertight.
4 - i got my stuff from a local supplier in Grimsby who gave me the instructions too, cost me about 100.00, but i had loads left over

My van is fibreglassed from top to bottom. It was previously a freezer van. It was a nightmare to walk on if I spilled diesel on the floor, but I overcome that problem by fitting decking anti slip tread plates on the floor.
