I am fed up with window cleaning now
« on: August 06, 2008, 10:26:47 pm »
I have been cleaning windows for a while now... money wise I am just getting by.

I have been putting flyer out in cobham, surrey 20 min away from where i live for a while hoping to get some more work plus more money too but the phone is dead and it all starting to get me down.

All i am good at is cleaning windows so there is no point me packing in windows cleaning otherwise I will be in the Sxxt.

All I want in life is to earn 50k a year which i have got no chance in doing so in cleaning window.

Just wanted to get it off my chest.

Stop whinning get out there and aim for your goal. Work hard pay well or 9am till 1pm your problem. i'm getting a bit fed with people saying i'm not earning this & i've no work coming in. Grow up the work was there before today, you have just lost work eaither because you have got to greedy or didn't turn up on time or couldn't be bothered with that £5 clean at the end of the day. Credit crunch my arse :-X

50k is a big target to aim for although with the right work possible to do but it only comes with hard work and dedication maybe for now you should set yourself some lower targets to work towards as setting really high targets can be hard to attain and thats when the motivation starts to suffer whereas if you have some lower targets when you reach them it can give you the motivation to kick on to the next one and the next

50k would be achievable if you put your mind to it and persevere.  Hard graft mind you but achievable.  I don't earn that myself but reckon I could in the fullness of time if I were to push myself harder.  I just don't see the point of being too knackered to enjoy the money that I earn.

I think for a 1 man band to earn 50k, you would have to have a business rather than work at window cleaning.
By that i mean a sign written van, website, professional stationary, conformance of h&s and investment in the right equipment.
Paperwork and certificates will help as well.
Read the posts on gutter vac and the like. There are many things a wc can do other than clean windows. Some things being more lucrative as well.

I think we would all like to earn 50k, if I wanted that much money then I would always be fed up. You've set your goal way up in the clouds

Cobham is a bit rural. Where do you live and how many leaflets have you delivered? The simple facts are if you deliver enough leaflets and knock on enough doors the work will come.
Leaflets do work but you have to deliver thousands. It sounds to me like you are getting a bit demotivated and that is a downward slope.

I don't know many people who enjoy their jobs - i know of very few who are on 50k a year and thats in a skilled trade. Surely the first post is a wind up?

David

I know the feeling well, After 10 years now I well and truly hate window cleaning, I lie in bed for an hour every morning feeling really down about the day ahead.

If and when you reach £50k you will still feel the same way as it sounds you are in it for the money and not the job, just like me. £50k will never be enough, even £100k or more, you willl still have that horrible feeling.

The way I combat it now is with staff, I still have a little way to go as my specialist knowledge is needed on a few big jobs, and that does my head in.

Can I nominate this as most arrogant unhelpful post of the week? ::)

David, I know where you're coming from, it's the same for me.
Stupid posts like the one above aren't going to help you feel any better.
Just read the friendly posts and let that sort of thing go over your head.

Ive only got about £1000 a month as only been set up for a couple of months but all the work ive got from putting out leafles and a bit of door knocking, ive got professional leaflets and business cards, logo top, website, sign written van which i make sure is clean all the time, I always make sure im clean shaven hair tidy as i want to look easily approachible, i recieve cheques through post and this has gained me good work from customers who work away, I no im new but i believe your target for each  year can be achieved, i know my targets are to build a business, employ and get more vans on the road and i have confidence in this.

Youll find door knocking will bring you more jobs then leaflets, youve obviously knocked on a couple of grumpy peoples homes but not everyone is like this nearly everyone will be polite, dont let it get you down just keep smiling as you move to the next house and youll find once you get 1 youll smile more and people will see this in you.

Good luck.

Chris
