« on: August 02, 2008, 08:13:46 pm »
Hi
I have now be cleaning windows for around 24 months, my method is wfp.

I started of with no customers, only friends and family.

After just counting, i now have 810 customers .

I have not been on this forum for a while due to making a go of this business.

But when i first was looking for help this was the site that led my the right way.

Thanks all

Dave

For 24 months that's a good number, did you get them all yourself or did you buy any rounds?

Also are you working alone or do your employ staff and where are you based?

To find 800+ people who are looking for a window cleaner in this day and age is pretty impressive

According to George we now have 1310 customers, but that's taken nearly 5 years to build up.

However I have two teams who clean them on a 4 weekly basis and they are very good at it, both trad and wfp.

Realistically on average I think one person can service about 20-25 houses a day so a person working by themselves need between 300-500 to be fully occupied, obviously depending on sizes of property, we have one that takes 4 people all day to clean, insides and out, but we charge £800 for it every 8 weeks.

well done david, but what they really want to know is are they 800 £1 fronts, or 800 £10 pound houses?

Don't tell them the answer, make em get to the point. If they are £10 houses i have a canvassing job for you!
i only asked if they where monthly or 8 weekly  ???

i think to clean 810 customers in one mont for one man band is impossible this is over 200 hundred a wk and over 50 a day no human being can do that on a regular basis if you think miracles come true you should be millonaire by now with that many customers m8 if you not try another door

Hi again
My customers are mostly 4 weekly, but there is a few 8 weekly.
Also my prices are upto date, people who what them cleaned for a few quid are never cleaned by me.
Yes most of my work is down to knocking doors, leaflets do not work.
There is two of us, but i am the one who as time for my customers and take time to talk to them, but my partner just likes to do the work and get the money.

Also there was a reply saying that one person could not this amount of work.

My answer to that is i sure can.

I also have my son who does all the hose work, which i think is most important, but he only sorts my hoses out as i am the one who pays him out of my earning.

Again my partner is to tight to share is money.

We could double the round and still get in done every monthly, but the reason i will not is because of my partners attitude to learning people and employing.

So my weakness is my partner, but ha im on to it.

Canvassing is the easy part to do.

But keeping them is the hardest. I will try and never let a customer go unless i have to.

But what i have learned about canvassing is make sure you can clean the fronts if no ones home.

Also when they are in do the inside of the front porch for free, YES FREE.

Those who are nervous of canvassing, i was too. But it does get easier.

If you only get one customer on that road, well do clean it because more will come.

Well done dave. I've been going about the same time and only have 290 customers with a George value of about £4,200. I canvassed the first twenty, but never liked it, and don't get much time.

I tend to get about about 15 new customers a month, but my attrition rate is high.

I have an electric reel that doesn't require paying and very good hose disipline that takes all all the work out of this side of it.

Dave
Maybe you should have rephrased that to "leaflets do not work for me".
In my circumstances, leaflets most certainly do work for me.
I've never got a customer by door knocking and hopefully never will  :)

You said they don't work.......
For me they do, so you are wrong ;D

Hope you don't have that attitude with your customers of you might lose a few ;)

I've never counted. ???

But I do between 7 and 15 a day depending on the size of them.

So if you say an average of 10.
4 to 4 and a half days a week.
4 weeks a month (obviously).

That'll be roughly 175-190 I'd guess.

I'll find out one day.

Hi Dave ,

nice to hear from you again on here, hope you are well. ;)

we started at the same time , and i dont have anywhere near half of your customer count,

forgive me if im wrong, but did you not join forces with another window cleaner and immediately double or maybe more..... your customer base?

Nothing wrong with that and a great idea... and both obviously have been  built through hard work,

but its worth a mention i guess,

Gary.
