hi,after a year of window cleaning the trad way(part time at the mo)buissiness is good and we are still picking up new ones every time we clean(we have a nice sign written van and (oh i know the t-shirts to go with it-image building you see)what i'd like to ask is   i've seen a wfp stystem on e-bay at £699.00-what do you guys think?is it worth it,we still want to trad the bottoms etc but its only a matter of time before i fall off the ladders no matter how carefull i am (during the week i fit windows and doors and see accidents or near misses from ladders fairly often)the stystem is from pure freedom and seems ok for a starter package-think i'd want a 100m hose though,any help would be great many thanks kevin

hib bob i guess what i'm really asking is this a good starter kit for wfp?as in value for money as to be honest i wouldn't know as i'm new to the idea of wfp-just i feel it could be a natural progression in expanding what work we have at the moment

How many of you are there?  If there is just one and your trading the bottoms then you'll probably have just enough water, presuming this is a small RO man setup, other wise I'd look for a bigger RO to produce the water.  If your only working Saturdays then it will produce enough water over the week.

If you are careful you will never fall.

I used to have an outdoor advertising business for 20 years, up triple 18 foot ladders all over  London.

Never an accident, or near miss.

TBH working on houses is a doddle after that.

tbh, I would I rather fall off a ladder than be in a crash again, but at the same time I would rather have wfp and stop the risk of falling and take the crash if it happens again, a crash can kill you with no wfp. Unsecured wfp system again increases that chance. secure wfp would be the same as you driving around in your car.

Do you use wfp ? have you ever used it?

Haven't looked to see what the system is, but I say this. If you have a sign written van, you're intent on furthering window cleaning. If it's still in conjunction with your other work consider a back pack system. It's (relatively) cheap and flexible. With some extra hose you don't have to carry it all day. Gives you an insight into wfp without spending silly money. If you have the right windows, it's so much quicker as well as safer. But remember, you're there to clean the windows, not TRAD them or WFP them, just clean them.

hi,thanks for all your replies so far,thanks to advice i'm going for a slightly bigger stystem,this is not to say i will not be totally wfp-still want/prefer to trad windows-more job satisfaction.i still prefer ladders-have used them for over twenty years now and am not bothered about high dormer windows on terraced houses etc-infact the things i used to do when i was younger scare me now(holding on to stone mullions 20ft up while sealing windows with the other hand using a sealant gun,you just don't do it nowadays, same goes for window cleaning its not the ladder at fault but the user,if your pushed for time etc,its human nature to rush/make mistakes etc-i just want to remove that element of life,like one member said about poop being poked out of your arse every day because of a ladder fall-but again another member has gone years without a fall-thats good this guy has either been lucky/or has had good training whilst i'm on  my high horse could i suggest some kind of topic on ladder safety?so everyone could learn at least one thing no matter small?top tips or something like that?even if it stops one person from falling it has to be worth it thats my peice said thank you for reading

There was no training 20 odd years ago when I started.

Safe ladder usage is not rocket science. Firm level base, don't overlean and hold on. 

Regarding the luck side, I had 4 blokes working for me over a period of two decades and they never had an accident either...........luck?

People tend to get a bit worked up over ladders nowadays as H&S has frightened everyone but the driving part of your job as unfortunately WW found  out is by far the most dangerous.

The problem with broad sweeping statements on here about how safe ladders are, is that the guys doing the typing aren't the ones who have fallen and ended up in a spinal care unit due to their injuries, having the poop fingered out of their asses every day for the rest of their lives becaue theyre paralysed from the neck down; and have lost the use of their muscles.

However careless you are at work thats a high price to  pay.
