Evening all.

Having a problem with my merlin filters. Quite simply they're not performing! the filters are about a year old, and after going through the filters, and an inline post filter, my water is coming out at about 80ppm. As you can guess i'm going through resin like no ones business to get it down to 0.

My question is do you all think my membranes and prefilter are shot, or is it worth just ordering the prefilter and post filter and seeing if replacing them make a difference?

The water comes out the tap at about 270ppm, so i suppose the filters are doing a fair amount of work, but surely they must last more than a year? especially considering i only use around 800 litres of pure water per week??

any advice welcome!

Remember though that 800L per week is 211 gallons and the pre-filters are supposed to be changed every 6 months OR 1700 gallons which is every 8wks if producing 211 gallons per week.........
Membranes should last 3yrs

change the prefilter - its only 20quid. you would be best to flush the membranes as well - connect the top port into your microbore/minibore and run 20 litres of pure water through it.

Fantastic stuff! thanks for the advice guys. Saves me 160 odd quid in membranes! will try it.

As regards the flushing though, the top port on the merlins, (the one that is usually blocked off, and i'm presuming is the flushing port) is much smaller than either the clean outlet or the waste. can anyone tell me what size it is so i can order the right size tubing??

Merlins are supposed to be self flushing. But contact RO-MAN for advise on that while ordering your filters.

merlins are self flushing but like any other ro you need to backflush them every now and then.

the tubing is 6mm john guest (rigid pvc), simply push it into the flush port - push the other end into some pole tubing, connect to your wfp system and run at max speed for 20 ltrs or so.

make sure you close off the merlin inlet and product to force all the water through the waste.
