In replying to Squeaky about his recent pump problems you intimated that he “should have stuck with the Flojets, they don’t need a flow controller when you use them with 6mm microbore”.

I note from the different specifications for the pumps that the Flojet also delivers more litres of water per minute (even at a lesser pressure).

What I’d like to know is – Can I fit the Flojet without having ‘bypass’ tubing, so that when I take my hand off my pole-mounted trigger switches, the Flowjet integral pressure switch will turn off the pump without doing any damage to itself. (I’m not bothered about pressure within the 6mm microbore as I’m confident none of the connections will leak.

Is there anything I should know/need to consider?

This is something i have found and like about the flojet, is that it comes out at 6.1lpm, if it could, but with 6mm hose it doesn't, more like 2l/min with 2mm jets. I reckon more would come out with normal half inch hose,

As for the pressure switch, ive been using it for 4 months now, and i have never had a problem, i even ran two hoses off it the other day, i thought the water pressure and flow would decrease, well it did, until the pump kicked in and for some reason the pressure and flow rate was identical,

i did change the pressure switch slightly, i loosened it so that it cut out at a lower pressure,

i use hose lock to connect to the reel and end stop on the pole hose, and there is never a blow out or anything like that,

with this pump it avoids the need of a variflow, which limits things that could go wrong

I use flowjets pumps and have no bypass or varistream.
when i switch the water off at the pole the pump turns off.

I did have a bypass but then the pump was always running.

I think its better without the bypass.

i have a 60 psi flojet no very stream no by pass i use microbore with tap flow adjuster at the end of my pole turn tap off pump stops turn tap on pump starts had no probs but i wired in a toggle switch to pumps positive wire to turn power to pump on and off when driving so no powr=er is coming from the battery to pump

I have flow jets with varistreams, they are a good pump.  If you wanted to alter the flow rate without a bypass with just a pump you could do as Ian Giles suggested in another thread and put a flow rate valve on the tank side of the pump, apparently this does not burn out the pressure switch like it would if it was at the pole.  The pressure switch will still turn the pump on and off when needed to.
