:) I must admit my water is hard as rock.
My vote only is only my opinion, as I like to carry pure water at all times.
But whatever you decide is /will be right for you I am sure

My water is about 045ppm so I have no reason for using RO.

My question is really should I have a tank of pure water or tap water and does the DI affect pump pressure?

same here aswell, my tds is over 470  :(

if tap was 45 I would still use an RO to bring it down as resin only is going to cost more in the long term.

if your set on costing your self money then I would say:

tap tank di strainer pump pole window

I use two systems

system 1

Tap water(320ppm) - spun debris filter - softener - RO - Di - Tank (outcome 0ppm)

system 2

Rainwater Butt(varies 45 -110ppm) - metal debris filter - spun debris filter - Pump - DI resin - Tank (outcome 0ppm)

If I had my way I would always use rain water as there is no waste!  ;)

I live in a Soft water area, I carry tap water in my tank and process it as I need it. The set up is Tank, pump Di, Di, pole. I have a double DI system to save resin costs. My TDS is 70 and Im on a water meter so its cheaper to use a DI set up.

If you get a fascia clean or a pressure washer job you dont need pure water so just by pass the DI and use tap water from your tank.   ;)

Absolute spot on, same set up here. I also would advise 2 x DI vessels, this will save you loads in resin. My tap tds is around 80ppm & i use 2- 25ltr bags of resin per year- thats 160 quid all in! (400ltr van mount)

With a tap tds of 45ppm i wouldn't even give an RO a second thought, I would also use dowex or tulsion resin as these have far more life than purolite.

Also, being in a soft water area, if you run low on water you can top up from custy's tap if you set up your system this way. ;) A no brainer IMO.

How do you set up a rainwater system?

I collect the rain from home off a large conservatory roof (it's amazing how much water can be collected!  :o ).
I have a sack-barrow it has the two filters a water pump followed by di resin tank.

I pump this once a week, fill the tank in vehicle and the remainder into a holding tank for the rest of the week (I change the debris filter each time, I don't want any green beastie's  :P )
With a little change over of hoses I use same pump to transfer water from holding tank to vehicle tank!  :D

I am thinking of changing my carbon footprint  ! I live on a row of terraces , so I am blocking all my neighbours down pipes , and joining them up to go into my down pipe into a massive tank ! The rest is filtering to use wfp  ;D
