Booster Pump Merlin RO
« on: May 10, 2008, 12:42:47 pm »
Hi, could anyone tell me which of these items on Ebay would be the best suited for my Merlin RO?
260236729372   80psi booster pump or  200220516477   65psi booster pump.

Also I have heard from a plumber that pumping water in this way can cause problems with your household tap, dragging air into the system...anyone else heard of things like this?
Do you use a pump and if so what is it and have you had any problems?

One last thing I don't mind spending more money, I am just fed up doing so!
Regards steve

I dont think either of them will suit the merlin. I think you would be better off with a pump that has continous flow. I am not an expert though I think it would be worth a  phone call to RO Man and ask them.   01823 698813

Hi Steve
I have a merlin without booster pump but good pressure from tap and the amount of waste is still shocking. I did get one of those pumps you asked about and it worked well for about an hour and then packed up. Thats why I think a continous flow one will be best, more expensive to start with but a better investment in the long run. I will get one soon but could you tell me what RO Man says if you call them. Cheers Mike

???  I bought one of these a German version looks the same as yours!
I use it for pumping rain water from rain-but through filters & DI resin straight into tank!

However when I use it connected to water tap the pressure reaches 20psi (1 1/2 bar) and cuts out  ???  ???  ???
Any suggestions?
I have placed it right up close to the RO (merlin) made no difference!
Baffled, because this is the right pump for the job... you buying one now confirms it!
The tank is supposed to produce constant pressure due to RO
 :-\  ???  >:(

I was told it wouldn't work as a transfer pump as it needs pressure to start working.  However, I charged it with mains water pressure, which must have 'primed' it, because it works really well as transfer pump now.  I used it to hose off the van with pure water and it was really fast (gauge said about 50psi i think).  If you put a tap on the end, it keeps building up pressure to about 60psi, then stops, until til you open it and pressure gradually drops.

Maybe you can adjust the cut off point on the pressure regulator valve, if it has one that's adjustable?

My mains is about 45-50PSi, so I don't use it as booster pump, just transfer.  Fills barrels quickly!

I think I could use it to boost mains up to about 80PSi, but haven't had time to play, and it works well as transfer, and when I play about with things, they tend to leak etc, and becomes a major overhaul.  All is tickety-boo at the mo, so will leave it.

Remamber Merlins don't like too much pressure, as they are only designed for small domestic water filtration use, whereas 4040 is capable of greater pressure, and works more efficiently when it is so.

Mind you, 20PSi is prettt dire isn't it?

i have the the big red jobby booster pump thats designed to pump water from a well or something into your house. problem was it was so powerful it switched on and off evry 4seconds when it reached max pressure and the pipes in the house gave an almighty clunk .drove the wife mad after 2 minutes.Solved the problem by getting another 1000ltr ibc tank to fill with water from house and used booster pump from there through merlin into pure water ibc tank. tricky bit is getting flow rates into holder tank to match booster pump rate drawing it out. But got that down to fine art too. result is 55psi into merlin constant, 018 ppm out of merlin into D.I. vessel thenn 000ppm into ibc tank...sorted. 8) Syd
