blu tac on various carpets
« on: January 11, 2005, 08:48:21 am »
having looked around a fair bit this seems the best place to get a real answer to my question. I thought google would cough it straight up but no good there...

carpets in the house are quite old and some attempts have been made to clean with various methods in the past, however now the main issue is widespread blobs of a yellow version of blu tac.

I don't know if the yellow version will respond to the same cleaner as the blue version?

The forum has suggested citrus based cleaner to remove blu tac. what would be a product available to the general public to do this job?
BTW I'm actually in Australia but i cannot find a similar site here...

Thanks

Garrie

Garrie,

Col runs a great forum 'down under' - sign up today, except for you today is tomorrow  :D.

If you use a citrus gel for this, the best I have encountered is Hydromaster Orange Jel.  allow plenty of dwell before scraping carefully, but it often need a follow-up with something like Prochem Solvall to remove the last remnants (Echo Spotter is not available down there).

Blu-tac is a piece of cake to remove.

Yellow-tac is somewhat more difficult I have found.

Have you found those products work equally well on both types John??

PS:  Where are you Garrie??

Cheers,

Rid-a-Gum is very good for removing both types of sticky tack. It's also pretty good on chewing gum!

Hi Shorty,

Thankfully I have not yet encountered the yellow variety, nor seen it on sale.

A treat to come maybe  :(

Shorty, I am in western Sydney, Australia (you know, where the "good" olympics were  ;) )

Gavin, thanks for the tip - strangely enough google failed me there and when I searched for "carpet cleaning" "pages from australia only" I mainly got BS adds from online supermarkets...  >:(

JB thanx for the brand name hopefully i can find it down here!
