Not done any yet but have one to price up today, any tips as in best time to do the work (depends a lot on pub i know) and getting things dry and ready for business?

Dave just depends on the pub/brewery if its independant with good furnishings they will pay a good rate for a good job,if its a brewery owned/managed in a run down pub, then they will pay buttons.
Like any commercial job gather loads of info on the audit to what they want,expect and need, then do your costing accordingly. Once you have done a few it will come naturally.

Got this job through a friend that is a carpet fitter, the landlady is replacing half and wants the rest cleaning.  Not really worried about pricing it, more when to do it and getting it dry.

Hoping to get in early, use as little water as poss and use airmovers.

Dave re drying. Dont got on the premise of little water or you wont get it clean. You need to flush out prob years of muck and also prob loads of sugars that will be around and near bar areas.
For pub work and particulary bad pubs tend to do the following.Do the obvious checks first.Then  Prespray enzyme, Chemspec Enzall is the best and can be boosted with a scoop of Energizer, prespary and aggitrate with Envirodri, if you havent got a mechanical aggitation machine then prespay a little more heavy on the bad areas, give a good dwell time then extract with hot water with plenty of flushing strokes followed by plenty of dry strokes.
If you want it dry by lunch then start it early and put a few blowers down and open all windows and doors. You will be fine.

Ta Paul, got a sebo duo and Enzall.  So leaving dryers there and windows open will involve hanging around afterwards?

Dave put the blowers on as you work, if you plan it they can be drying areas as you clean other areas.
If its local, go and do your next job then pick up the blowers on the way back, or if you dont need them for the rest of the day get the pub to store them till you can get back.

Dave if its trashed or many years since cleaned and not realy looked after then dont worry about ph mate.If the ph is 14  by the time it gets through all the s h **e iand hits the wool t will prob be 7

Its not too bad at all, just been and got the job, will be 2 of us starting midnight next week and it will take 4 hours, my price was prob a bit low as its my first

I've done most of my pub carpets after stop tap at say 11.30pm. No body around. No pressure to finish quickly. I find it better that way.

If you are a truckmounter then the noise of the machine at midnight can cause problems. How do you other T/M operators get on with this?

I can appreciate it's now a bit late 'cos you've quoted already. But remember, cleaning pub carpets and removing gum are two different things and should be costed seperately.

Thanks everyone,  Ken, there is only aroung 8 small pieces of gum (suprisingly) and i took this into account.  The area is approx the size of 4 through lounges and i use a porty at the moment so tm noise not a problem..

Suggested i return every 4 months for a low moisture maintenence clean which they where happy with, as well as returning to do the seats in the near future 

Just need lots of coffee to keep going (prob mixed with enzall  )

Paul, do you really feel there is still a need for enzymes these days?

What about M Power with heavy rotary agitation and 20-30 minute dwell time then boosted with heavy duty MS with heavy rotary agitation before extracting?

How do the tm lads get on with pub cleans and out of hours noise?

do them first thing in the morning cleaning the areas around the bar first , just a bit of commen sence,dont do it on a Saturday.either a Monday or Tuesday, use driers as you work,
If its a big pub and you are worried about HS issues get the landlord to cor den half the pub

Use a t/m & always clean pubs first thing in the morning. Use an RX and also down drafts so can get through the work & dry by opening time

I have 1 pub that I do 1 a year, he's an owner so it's a good job with payment straight away but it is the only one I do, but I go in at 8am (publicans don't like getting up early and you can't rely on their staff!) and am done and the carpet is dry for when I leave at 11am ready for opening at 11.30.

The bigger and open the area the faster it will dry and also may sure they move tables etc before you get there!!!
