I have a number of customers on my books who have come to me specifically because I am prepared to do their windows at weekends and Bank Holidays.

These are the "out all day" types who can't leave the gate open.

No work today, but will be out on monday as we are only working till wednesday then holiday time for 10 days, happy days.   (not going anywhere exotic, just Yorkshire at the inlaws, to get some real ale drinking in with the father inlaw.)
Veni, vidi, vino, splatus.

 (I came, I saw, I drank, I fell over...)

To all you people working over the hols:

What is the point of being self employed if you are going to flog yourself to death?

It's Easter take a break with your family.  :)

I'm not going back until wednesday, would be tuesday but it's Kempton Park.  ;)
Cheers,
Neil

Of course, the other take on this is "What is the point of being self-employed if you can't CHOOSE when to take your holidays?"  I work some of this weekend so that I can take 5 days off from NEXT Friday.
Much of my family lives in the northeast.  I live in the southeast (think they're trying to tell me something?    :)   )  .  Several family birthdays over the next week or so and I live on my own.  So I work some of Easter so that I can spend time with my family next week.  Different circumstances for different people  :-)
Personally, I would prefer public holidays to be abolished and the days just added to annual leave entitlement.  That way there is more choice about when to take a break.  It would also mean that cheques don't take an eternity to clear if you bank them at the wrong time.

Massive commercial contract on Monday. A 5 storey Police station that has not been cleaned for 10 years and it is all aluminium frames. Taking 4 of us along for the day.

Been out today and earned enough to take the family away in the caravan for a few days next week. Not floggin myself to death just using the flexibility that self-employment gives you.

The way I think of it is - I will work bank holidays if I need to, or take them off if I choose to(or moreprecisely if the wife chooses  ;)).I make my schedule, not the government! You can't travel anywhere bank holidays anyway, cos the roads are always so choc-a-block! I worked today (goodfriday) and there were hardly any customers in anyway. One benefit of it was that one of the only customers in was a milkman who I never see during the day, so he payed me finally!

I will be working tomorrow assuming the customers are ok with it.  I did some of my work for tomorrow last Friday but I still have about 6 houses left.  They are some of my most expensive propertys so I wouldn't like to miss out.

Full day today.
I try to go into areas where we are a bit light on bank holidays. More potential for new business particularly on a nice sunny day like this.

I'll work bank holidays, christmas day etc etc if necessary and take holidays when its suits me and the family. Thats what I love about Wc. Off in abit to do a commercial contract. It'll give me time to take some time off during the school hols.
I hate being told when I have to work and when I can have time off.
