Where is your hose reel mounted?
« on: February 25, 2008, 10:58:15 pm »
Looking for ways to shave a few seconds/minutes off per house and save time/effort over the day.

My hose reel is mounted permanently at the back of my van on top of the tank which is ok. I did have it so I could lift it out but found it would sometimes topple as I pulled the hose out and so I screwed it down.

Do you have yours loose so you lift it in or out?

If you have side doors do you mount it so you can pull the hose out of either side door or do you still work out the back?
It's a game of three halves!

each van has one at each side door, and 2 at the rear.

each reel has 90mtrs of 6mm microbore with a pump servicing each side so for example left hand pump services left door and left rear reel.

sorry forgot to mention both our vans have lie flat tanks in them, the reels are bolted down onto the frame.

mine is loose so i can point it in any direction at any point around the van. 80m of minibore on a 4 year old hozelok plastic/alu reel which is still going strong, is light, small & never topples over. ;)

i have mine in the back with about 6 feet of hose connecting it to my pump so i can lift it out and point it in any direction.
I was going to go for a fixed reel a while back but after checking out my round i found it was much easier to reposition the hosereel so i can reel in a straight line rather than reposition my van, which wasn't practical on most of my work.
I broke or knocked over too many things in the beginning to realise that reeling in a hose around corners caused too many problems.

I have a "travelling" hose that contains 80m of microbore. When I get to a house I take the pole and hose and walk to the farthest point then leave the pole which is already plugged in and walk back to the van paying out hose as I go. When I get back to the van I plug in to the water.

I find this is quicker than trying to drag a hose out from the van round all the obstacles, dustbins, plantpots and the like.

Clipped to the van floor as close to the back doors as i could get it - never take it out these days. Sometimes run it through the floor if i want to lock the van up.

We have our hose reels mounted at the back, we find it easy as we grap a pole and end of the hose and walk to the window, very easy and fast  8)
