50% off during dec.
« on: December 08, 2004, 06:20:06 pm »
well , just got back home from a survey, h/s/l   , bedroom , and 3pc,
during the survey, the lady off the house says  your the first to come and have a look ,  out of three .
nothing unusual i though!  then she showed me a leaflet she had through her door .  ;D ;D
      heres how it goes
the name of comp. which was the
             TRUCK MOUNT CARPET CLEANING.
              call.  ................
              What is truckmount?
the truck mount carpet cleaning system is 20
times more powerful than the normal porable electric machines that are commonly used.
this results in a vastly superior clean, leaving your carpets
SPARKLING ?  and ensuring a much healthier enviroment.
This means even the most heavily soiled carpets are dry in less than 2 hours.
The products we use are woolsafe approved and provide exceptional
   cleaning power.
trained proffesional techncians and quality service.

      E.G.  through lounge was £75.00  now £36.00 thats a saving of 50%

plus the more you have cleaned , the cheaper it is, we will even offer you this if you book for the following year

this is almoet exactly as in flier with 50% off splashed all over

what im wondering is this!   do they  really need this sort of add at this busy time of year ?

    p.s.
i got the job at full price
does any body else offer this in dec ?
   geoff
who ever said dont knock before u try ,i never tried dog crap but i know i wouldnt like  haha

It would be madness to offer such discounts at this time of year January maybe but do they really charge £75 for a lounge throughout the year I think not.

Yea but its hard to argue against this type of advertising when its telling the customer what they want to hear.  Its only after the job the customer finds out its a con or poor quality work.

If its good quality work then its impossible to market against it until he goes bankrupt or his truckmount breaks down, he cant afford to fix and uses his old 20 times less powerful portable.

20x more powerful than what a vax??

A truck mount with 20x the power of a Recoil 3 or Eclipse would be quite a beast :)  10000psi with 5000cfm

I get these type of fliers through my letterbox with my local free paper about every quarter 50% off for 2 weeks
I went round to a customers house on saturday to clean a carpet that had been cleaned by one of these companys a few days before needless to say that the carpet was absolutley filthy they had cleaned it with some sort of chippings brushed them in with a sweeping brush and then vacuumed them up using a henry hoover the whole process took about 15 min from start to finish

I told the customer to complain but of course he had thrown the leaflet in the bin and the recipt was just out of a duplicate book with no details on it

And they charge him £5 to scothgarg the room 12 * 12ft

Why are these people allowed to trade?

just thought i would reply to this as i think some of your comments to be a bit naff   i know 2 people who hav been carpet cleaners over 10 years and they work off 50% flyers both use truck mounts and turn over is £ 70.000 year plus and thay get repeat bussiness and cust pass their name on to others they only charge £20 carpet their cust want their carpet cleaned thats all not load tec jargon and high prices what they cant aford  lot  cleaners on here would not want thier clients because they are not in high income  people
and they would never pay £50 to hav a carpet cleaned  but i bet lot carpet cleaners would like to earn 70000 plus a year ? yes i thought so   horses for diffrent courses as the saying gos   so really no need to knock them  they offer a service what reflects thier prices and do a decent job and like i said if they was not about u woudnt get their work because u are miles to dear for their type client .

just my feelings on the matter cheers

Ashplays , i can see the logic in this form and type of advertising, and the prices
they charge,
but i can also see the type of customer you are reffering to, and attracting, yes
no doubt ,  they may be get plenty of work !!
on the other hand  , not all i stress, but the majority of this type of customer
have likely never had a clean before , their carpets and furnishings are usually ,
 very heavily soiled.
not the type of customer i personally am aiming for. i was taught from the very begginning to charge a fair, but profitable price ;w
wiith refrence to the 2 c.c. you know, if they are so busy .do they put out fliers in dec. advertising 50% off like above  ;D
  geoff
 p.s.
Len sorry no scanner , but will pass on to mike Halliday, he may be able to help  . wow now i know what i need for xmas

£20 a carpet is that including VAT

They must be cleaning 15 carpets a day

How many leaflets do they put out.

The success rate  return from leaflet must be high as they have little time for travelling

they hav part time leaflet people who do a few hours a day ,costs about £50 week  these hav been going out for about 10 years week in week out   its not the high respone rate its how many leaflets they hav out there and amount of repeat work is very high ,they dont hav to do 15 jobs a day   they could say do 3 carpets one house, drive 3 miles do 3 pc (£60) then go into next street do h/s/l  then drive 6 miles do another 3pc and a carpet  etc etc  u never get just one carpet after onecarpet   like i said in above post £70000 is being bit on the light side  prob   cheers gary

A job I had in Mitcham today, it came out in the conversation another TM wanted to charge her of the use of an extra hose! Carry three used two the norm.

In my area I often see signs on lamp post carpet cleaning 50% off am tempted to phone to see what the price is?

Hope Carpet Cleaning is not going to become like Network Marketing with signs on lamo posts etc.

You should take  a photo and telephone number of the sign and report it to yhe local Council.  Insist they take action.

If you belong to NCCA or over trade body send evidence to them an insist they protest at the highest level.

In this area we have got street car traders banded Cars will be taken away and crushed.

Local Speedway and other traders will be prosecuted for Flyposting.

Understand Sony have been fined quite heavily in London

Anyone who deducts 50% from their prices simply cant make a profit.

I dont care who you are!

Ashplays,

You say they can do 1 x 3 peice suite, then 3 carpets, then HSL, then another 3 peice suite, then another carpet, all in different houses.
Like most people on here say, often the work is crap.

By the way if these 50% off leaflets go out 52 weeks a year my question is:-

50% off WHAT???? ???

Ian,

Maybe the solution to the problem is not to use any form of solvent so that no solute is taken into solution.

Without solvent there can be no solution so the solution to cleaning problems may seem to be to use only granular cleaning. However these granuals themselves are dampened with one or more solvents, since without this addition no soluton would be produced to be absorbed - so this is no solution at all.

Perhaps then the only effective solution is to invent a new word to substitute for solution. maybe lutionso would be an acceptable solution?

PS.

Has anyone got the phone number for Lutionso-Uk Ltd.?   ;) ;D ;D ;D

Ashplays,

Gary,

I think you make some valid points ,  but would ask whether the £70000+ per annum is between them or each.

The big problem I see with prices this cheap is that you will always have to work really hard to make a decent living.

With higher prices it gets easier as you get more established.

Cheers,

Doug
