Advice please
« on: December 06, 2004, 10:05:54 pm »
Went to a young ladys house today to look at some marks on an oat-meal couloured berber carpet.
The marks are about 12" long, dark in colour caused by her pulling her suite out, the wheels are black plastic
they look almost like scorch marks on the carpet

any suggestions
regards Bob

what sort of fibre is the carpet?
sounds like it could be man made and if so you may be right that these are scorch marks on the carpet caused by the friction of her moving it

Bob,

I have seen this many times on synthetic carpets - friction-heat causing minor surface melting.

Success rates vary between  total removal, removal of deposited material but pile damage still evident to minor improvement only.

I have used several methods in the past but in the past 6 months have dealt with the problem twice, using Eco spotter and a bone scraper. Prior to the availability of this product the best over-all success has been with isopranamol and a scraper. In both cases the alcohol serves as a penetrating wetting agent which assists in breaking the bond between the two plastics.

Work slowly and carefully and promise nothing.
