can anyone help? I look after an elderly gent who, unfortunately is on a water meter and doesnt flush his toilet very often.  The buildup of limescale in the toilet pan is so bad and brown looking that im having difficulty in getting rid of the limescale. Can anyone suggest anything to help?

For below water-line lime scale plain hydrochloric acid - sold at good janitorial suppliers, often labelled "industrial de-scaler" - is both very effective and economical.

For above waterline the most effective product I have encountered is "Fixoclense" but there are many effective acidic gels on the market - as well as the non-chemical approach of using a pumice stone.

What about atfer ALL that getting the old boy a good old bottle of bleach to use, dos'nt anybody use it anymore.
