Good morning Bill, just glanced through some previous posts and wondered why you didn't use Ultimate Master, which is an excellent product and safe to use on wool.

You will find with wool, that after cleaning, it often looks darker than before you started, but, if cleaned properly, will lighten as it dries.

Not suggesting you go out and buy U/M it's just that you mentioned using it in a previous post.

Put it face down and vacuum thoroughly then lift up ........... you can lift and clear away dust then repeat 5 or more times  :o

Save your money on the um it won't do any better job than one clean. Is this an Ikea rug, if it is don't knock yourself out as they don't even look clean when new.
Rugs need thorough vacuum as Chris said both sides.

I would be more concerned about the rats that where ripping the trim from the rug.

Little Yorkie, probably as old as the rug itself  ;D

One reason for taking rugs away to clean is if once you've dried it you can see exactly how well it has come up and if neccessary clean again.

Just not possible when cleaning in situ apart from risking a "call back".

Vacuuming was vast improvement on that rug  ;D

Could have wiped it over with a flannel and it would have looked better ......... have done loads of work for this customer and that rug is the one her first dog used and now has passed on to 3rd Yorkie .................... memory value, not money value .......
smaller house next door to hers, recently sold for 1.2 m so i think she knows good service and value when she sees it  ::)
