In some ways you are right about window cleaning being boring Neil, but I think that most jobs get boring after you have done them for a while, I think the main reason that many of us are earning less than our rounds can potentially earn is that it is far too easy to start late or finish early, in most other trades you just can't down tools and leave the job, and most are paid day rate which means you have to put in a full days work. This is one of the reasons that I took up window cleaning, the flexibility of it, and I like to be able to take the kids to school ect, but having sat down and worked it out, I can see that this flexibility is stopping me from making the most financially from my round!!

I agree Hoggy.

There is more to life than money and the fact you can take your kids to school and do other stuff whilst the wage slaves still have their noses to the grindstone is definitely a great thing IMO.  :)

Yes it is nice to Be your own boss an d work when you like.
But, to me, it's about a longer term plan:

I am 46, Tracy (my wife) is 43.  Our Daughter is 18 and beginning to sort her own life out.  Tracy and I really feel it's time to plan for our retirement.
My main priority is to clear our mortgage as soon as possible.  Next try to put a bit aside for our retirement.  So, to me, I am trying everything I can to get every penny out of my round.  If I earn more than I need to Pay the bills then I will Bang it off the mortgage ;) ;)

I know exactly what you mean mate, I am thinking exactly the same thing, I now want to start maximising the profits from my round, which potentially can make very good money, but I am not realising this potential because of things like early finishes and late starts ect, it is very nice to be able to pick and choose your own hours but if you are not careful it can become a habit, I know that with a bit more discipline I could be easily averaging an extra £50 a day, and if invested wisely this could grow into a large sum of money over the years.

Groundhog,

£50 a day :o :o

Think of it this way..................

Would you throw away a fifty quid note? or chuck one on the fire?

You DO........................every day ??? ??? :o :o

Mind you..............to stop them £50 falling in the fire is easier said than done :-\ :-\

David, yes I reckon that with more discipline and better motivation I could easily average at least another £50 a day, and I expect many of the others on here could do so as well. I have heard lots of others say that they don't start until 9am and are finished by 3pm, well if they started at 8am and finished at 4pm, thats an extra 2 hours a day without putting yourself out too much, and most seem to be able to earn £25 an hour, so there is £50 straight away, which if invested carefully could grow into a worthwhile nest egg!!
This is going to be my new years resolution, to maximise my earning potentiel everyday and invest for the future, so any tips or ideas on motivation would be appreciated!
