Ian You can use your other car battery to power your system, but recharge asap and sort your other battery out asap.

I have it in kitchen recharging but is doing nothing at all, and smells very bad.

Cheers Jeff, the battery is less than 2 weeks old and so is the charger, as i got it with new system  :'( battery has charge in a little but been charging now for 6 hours or fast charge and still nothing from the charger  ::)

i would run some thick wire about 2-3mm from your vehicle battery at the front, clamp it in tight with the clamps for the engine.

your van battery will be quite heavy duty and powerful with a high aH rating so it should be fine for your big job, just check after 30 mins- 1 hour that your van starts up fine, shouldnt be a problem.
if its on charge in your house, make sure the water level is high enough in the batteries, otherwise it can do nasty things, and it wont be charged in the morning.
get a decent charger when you can thats got a digital display, showing how much has charged allready.
dont panic, if you have another vehicle, take the battery from that along with you its bound to have some power to last an hour or two.
hope it goes ok

Cheers for that, but the battery and charger are 2 weeks old, surely wfp cant kill a battery in that time

i dont think it would damage the battery, the current from the pump isnt that high, what pump are you using? or are you using two pumps?

i dont think it would kill the battery, if theyre new then chances are there is nothing wrong with the battery, so it would be the charger, firstly cheque the charger, if there are display lights are they on and some have inbuilt fuses, you may have accidentally touched the + and - together and blown the fuse, these are normally 10 amp, see if there is a fuse there underneath or at the bottom you can pull them out????????
replace it and dont touch the wires together and it should work, or

i dont suppose youd want to but if you are really desperate i live in lakenheath about 30 mins away and can have a fully charged car battery ready for you, to pick up early in the morning- or you could pick up the battery tonight and two of my chargers for 12v batteries which work! put them both on overnight and you should be ok, but its upto you. i dont know how long it would run your system for but fully charged, i think its about 48 ah,. i would probably need it back though... as its from one of my cars!

you know what you are a really nice guy, thank you for the offer I really do appreciate it, I have not touched the wires together as many moons ago I did this to another charger and it blew up on me, I have checked if there are fuses on charger and there is not, there was a real bad smell coming from either the battery or the charger and wife was going mad as I charge it inside in the kitchen  ::) the carging light is on, but nothing seems to be happening at all. I have a car battery on my other car that I can use if need be I just didnt know if it would damage my system or not, its from a 1.6 astra estate 16v, i run 2 surflo 100 psi pumps varistream and flow master aswell, lucky i filled tank up before I took out to charge or I would really be in the s=== now just have to work out how to get power to it for the morning, I will call the company I got it from in the morning for a replacement, that thats after 9am and the job starts then. I can let them down, I would rather lose my wifes wage for one day and take her battery then lose this new job as it is in a private estate and is untouched by any other window cleaner

right,
if the battery from the astra is 16volts i dont know whether i would use it as it could be too much for the esc (flowmaster) its strange having a 16volt battery? but it might work by turning the flowmaster to its lowest setting first and dont turn it up too much, but then again it might blow the flowmaster! or do you mean 16valve- aslong as its 12v it should be fine, the higher capacity the better. Im using 40 Ah batteries in my trolley system..lasts about 6-10hours running with varistream and shurflo 100

heres some information on the pumps,

http://www.williamsonpumps.co.uk/8000-441-138.pdf
it says the pumps use 12v .... doesnt say about how much the controllers can take though.

which shows that about 70psi it uses 5.3 amps so thats 10.6 amps for you at a high speed on the flowmaster roughly - most 'small' car batteries say on them 380AMPs for starting the car turning the car electric starter, which is fine for the battery, obviously these little 12v motors drawing 10-15 amps is not going to be a problem i dont think for the battery.

I think it is your charger- it must be screwed, ive had chargers go bad and smell horrible, best to turn it off! also you can put your ear up close to the battery and see if you hear anything??? (when charging) if you hear a hissing/bubbling noise this is because of low water levels in your battery but, as its new this shouldnt happen.

anyway shel be allright, rather her job than yours! :-)
have fun

Get a new one.

Never go two days without charging. Charge every night, they live longer. Like a year or more.

They aren't meant to be drained that much, and you might have two pumps. Every night = charge battery.

If the battery smells like rotten eggs, then the battery is useless, one or maybe 2 cells are gone.

Ian you got the system fom freadom right, on my trolley i had the same problem it turn out to be on the conections if they are the same on yours you should have a black and a red wire/pug on bout battery and charger make sure that the red is connecting to red and black to black.

problem you guys are having is you are using car batteries, you need to use leisure batteries. car batteries discharge much quicker than leisure batteries. we have a fleet of 6 vans, all transits and we were suffering major problems while poling even for just over half an hour, fitted 85 amp/hr leisure batteries and a split charge relay (available from caravan shops) and end of problem ;)
