Wands
« on: October 28, 2007, 11:25:53 am »
Hi everyone, I'm thinking of buying 3 new wands for me and my operators to use. I was thinking about either buying the 12" Double D Wand that chemspec make or going for the cfr wonder wand. We would be using the wands with a truckmount and portables. Could anyone give me good honest advice on these products and if there is any wands i could look at. I'm primally looking for lightness and good airflow.
Many thanks

Ken Wainwright

Hi Luc

In my experience, wands, even more so than machines, are a very personal thing. What suits one person will be the sperm of the devil to another.  Others will offer their opinion of what will work for them, but it could well be awful for you and/or your technicians.

If you can, see if any of your local colleagues would be prepared to loan you a tool or two, even ones you haven't considered. It has been mentioned on these forums in the past that a distributor in the Nottingham area will loan you a Wonder Wand for a trial period if you are interested in buying. Perhaps other distributors will do the same?

When I was down at HydraMaster in the summer, I had a play with their standard 2 jet 1'5" swan neck wand (AW29). It looked similar to one that I have, but was vastly superior in every respect. I then tried their low profile, 4 jet 2" swan neck.  I was VERY impressed, especially with a Greenie on board. Marginally superior to my own similar spec. wand.

Don't buy any wand on the advice of others. Try them first(not 5 minutes "play") if you can.

Safe and happy cleaning :)

You dont say where you are?

Matt at Cleansmart Nottingham may lend you a Wonderwand

I have had one now for 18 months and its really good working with my CFR500.
Easy to use due to the roller at the back - no lifting on the outward stroke, just roller it, plus if you need a bit of air on the suction stroke just lower handle down and again, due to roller its easy.

I think Shaun Ashmore in Sheffield has had one and found the suction too much with his truckmount though. He'll probably comment soon when he gets away from the kitchen sink!

Thanks Ken, I'm getting a new truckmount from them in feb so i may have a look at their wands. At the moment i have several wands but i favor the standard two jet wand that ashbys and woodbridge sell. The wonderwand i've heard is amazing but heavy.

Hi pete, i'm ok thanks mate. Just had a hectic last few months, i split up with the other half so ive had to move out of the apartment you came round to. i've just brought another place while renting my friends place and paying out on the apartment shes in. So my cashflow has ceased. ha ha. But work is going well and i've just been concentrating on that. How's the old ninja going???

I happen to have it good authority that he counts his coins about this time on a Sunday whilst he watches a very poorly looking tiny tim playing gratefully out on the street in his ragged clothes.

Joe i'm in Essex. I also heard that with a truckmount the suction is immense.

Sorry to hear about that mate.

Ninja is fine. Replaced a vac a couple of Months back but other than that she's wicked. Much better than the Steempro. By the way, do you know where I can get replacement jets for the wand from. When Ashby's replaced the vac they did'nt have the jets that fit, only the size below.

I think hydramaster may have them in mate. THey always have a good selection of jets. I tried woodbridge when i had the wand, at the time they did not stock that size in.

Just weighed a Prochem 2 jet wand - 9lb, Wonderwand 10.5lb

I  use the Chemspec double D wand, its imposible to move without a glide on when using a truckmount, it is very comfy in the hand with the pressure washer handle.

I've used the wonder wand and find a hyped up, vastly over priced piece of sh*t  (imo ;))people say they get 1/2hr drying times with it, if this was true everyone would be using them. it might improve drying times because its fitted with 01 jets, fit any wand with such fine jets and you put less water down, so the drying times will improve

I'd buy the chemspec.

but Shaun reckons his wonderwand/truckmount combi just stuck to the carpet - does this not show it has a design with suction in mind - and suction is taking the wet out of the carpet leaving it dryer, is'nt it?
and I've heared people say the wonderwand falls to pieces - well I have had mine 18 months and used it for 18 months and its still together. Mind you - I treat it with respect and don't throw it about, don't know about others.
How long did you own yours for?

Lee G was selling one last year as well.

I think without a glide they are useless

The wonderwand is a lovely piece of kit for he porti owner, it is heavy but probably the best made wand I've ever seen and used and I've used the DD and a Ti wand.

Firstly it dries carpets faster and that is why I bought it but the suction on my TM was too much and it stuck to the carpet (they don't make glides for it) I have a 2" westpak and that doesn't dry it as fast.

Secondly it's slower to use, very heavy and you can't get up to the skirting boards with it as it has a screw on the side that holds the roller in place and that impairs it going up to the edges as it would scratch the woodwork.

Mikes DD wand was very easy to use but needs to by glided but my favourite would be a Ti wand albeit very expensive but if it is your living why not? but they are very hard to get hold of a true Ti wand as they have cheapened them off. May be a greenhorn wand may be a 2nd best?

I'll give you £100 for your prochem 4 jet wand. Complete with glide of course. You probably wont need it now you`ve got your new wand. ;)
