Happened to us a couple of years ago.

We dont normally work in London (we was literally begged though - and it was certainly made worth our while  ;)), and didnt really fancy it for some reason, couldnt put our finger on it. Anyway, 2 toe rags on a bike broke our van window and nicked our laptop, printer and all associated paperwork. Worst of all we couldnt finish the job (obviously) and we refused to go back and finish it.

Can you claim on your insurance? We have a comprehensive policy that not only covers the basic liability/treatments risk but also stock, business equipment (machines & computers etc), and money/assault (if you get robbed with your takings!).

Know how you feel. Two weeks ago a tree fell on top of my vehicle. Thought that only happened to others. Car smashed and all glassworlk smashed. As I had business fleet insurance wrongly assumed I would get a similar work vehicle insured for business use whilst mine was off the road. Was given a 2-door  supermini. Furious as I had to cancel jobs until I got the vehicle situation sorted.

Same thing happened to me a few months ago John,  but unlike yourself just had the Sat Nav mount stolen (as I always keep the actual Sat Nav with me at all times).
Luckily I only had the one job that day which I was able to pospone.
Think the repair bill for the window was arond £60.

My TomTom leaves with me but the mount i got from eBay is one that fits to heating vents ........... it is below dash height and not visible from the front and very hard to spot from side either............................ even made the wife take that stupid sucker mount off windscreen in the car and fit same vent type.  ;)

Our old man ripped the end of his finer off repairing a sebo duo the other day, took the flesh from his finger nail diaganally across to the 1st finger crease joint.  Was horrible cleaning it and putting it in a bag a cauliflower (forzen) to take to hospital.  His own daft fault but gruesome non the less.

Probably common knowledge but I've heard that a round suction mark on the screen is enough to temp the crooks into breaking in and hoping to find the goodies in the glove compartment.  Aren't we stressed enough  ???

For the first SAtNav the brick was thrown so hard it went through the driver's window and straight out through the passenger's window! It was very cold driving home down the motorway on a cold winter's day with no windows.

Tried to claim on the vehicle insurance but was refused as it was not an integral part of the vehicle. They said it shouldn't be in the vehicle. I resisted the feeling to say that I didn't really need it at home to navigate between the bedroom and the bathroom! Coudn't claim on business insurance either. (NOt worth it because of the excess and the policy only covers actual cleaning machinery and chemicals. A tool of the trade ie the SAtNav is not considered a tool of the trade for insurance purposes. Even though I can't do the job without the SAtNav the arguement was that I do not actually clean a carpet with a SatNav. )Had to claim on personal home contents insurance and even then it took quite a bit of work to get the insurance company to pay me.

Second Satnav was hidden but still nicked in an opportunistic break-in. I now take it into wherever I am working without fail. However, fixing it to the window and taking it off again half a dozen times a day does wear out the sucker and mounting. I'm onto my third one of those. And don't get me started on the level of service from Comet!!!!!

I was going to Halfords tommorow to buy a sat nav for the van before I read this post.

Think I will stick to my maps.

thieving mongrel nicked mine the other day, van parked outside own house for 3 mins to get paperwork. Alarm went off looked outside to see him getting mountings and charger as well, silly boy as i ran outside punched him in the head and kicked him until he fumbled with my loot and dropped all apart from a charger......£75 lesson learnt and a sore fist.
