Out of all the trades that earn big money (Plumbing, building, electrical, windows/doors etc. Im just curious why you guys choose to clean carpets and upholstery for a living?
Its definitely not because of the money because carpet cleaners deal in the 00s not the 000s the well established only generate a very modest income, the work is usually a hard physical graft, the advertising needs to be constant through out your whole business career, more than any other business.

You guys are a true credit to the human race, to take on a business such as this and work tirelessly hard to make a future for yourself and your families. No other tradesman will ever be as good a business man as a carpet cleaner because they get the money and lifestyle handed to them on a plate after very little investment or time getting established.

Credit where credits due, give yourselfs a very firm pat on the back!!

i suppose some do it because its easier to get into than say elecy or plumber, i was brought in by family (damn family).
You need to train for the other careers for a lot longer, and the training can be rather expensive compared to some CC training

I suspect the owners of Rainbow or Chem-dry earn a fair bit more than the average plumber or sparky.

Matt, bit of a sweeping statement I think.  I as others do very well out of this business and in a lot of cases "earn" a lot more than sparkies, plumbers etc.

As for advertising I dont at all and I know of a few others that dont either.

As "we" get older in the business shouldnt our advertising get less as each year we should be going back to an existing client negating haveing to find a new one.

I hope we as cleaners do as well or better than the trades mentioned as we have a lot more expenditure to start out and in some cases keep going.

Long time no hear Dave, how are things?

Onlt trouble with sparkies and joiners not plimbers are that they all charge the same, by the day, I have a freind who is a sparky and he has 3 lads that work for him and he can only charge the same as his competitor £150 a day, say the emplyee is on £80 a day then after extras I bet he gets next to nowt.

I know he has a massive turn over but I bet I earn more than him, infact his Mrs has to work aswell.

I recently met a guy who is a general handyman, electrical, plumbing and woodwork.

He was fitting a loft floor. He started at 8 am getting materials together and calling at local merchants for materials etc.

He got onto the job at 10 am to transport all his materials and tools to a first floor flat and then make a start.

I guess, after clearing the attic etc, it was time for dinner.

Carpet/upholstery cleaning does have many advantages over other trades, and if your a liittle bit smart
will give good rewards.

Let's take a brain surgeon.

Gets straight A's at school

He trains for 10 years

Gets to use the sharp impliments on your 2nd most delicate organ.

AND HE STILL SWAPS TIME FOR MONEY.

She probably works 60+ hours a week and tops out at 300k including private work.

Take a CC who has the where with all to build a business and run 3-4 vans.

If he's very smart he has a 2IC who runs it when he goes off for weeks on end doing what he loves doing most and the money keeps coming in (even if he has a bad back) .

Thank God for brain sugeons though (and Chiropractors).

When I was at a Dinner last week I sat next to a Harley Street Plastic surgeon.

He lives in a Mansion and goes to work in a Hellicopter unless its foggy.

How many carpet cleaners do that?

Yes and while he is training for 10 years he is still getting paid/sponsored for loads of wonga.

My brother teaches japanese students english but while he was learning on his second year he was getting sponsored (to get pizzed) £10k a year and on his 5th year he was getting £20k (that's an achoholics dream!)

Anyway, I know of 4 owners of Chem Dry in the states who also are flown by helicopter.  Get this too, they have me clean (or had) their carpets. Funny world we live in.  I ll phone you and explain why.

Also the owner of Coit, the largest cleaning company in the world also is flown privately.  She and he have their own private jets so I am sure they would have helicopters too.

He can't work and has no other source of income. If only he'd built a CC business.
