That was meant as a joke. I am totally burnt out at the mo, I dont know what it would take to become ' the next carpet cleaning millionare'  but I'm not about to kill myself trying.

hi there

Tony,

i'll tell you why i started my own business, to achieve a better standard of living, i knew that i wouldnt be abke to achieve that goal by working for somebody else.  so i took the decision to start my own company, and well into the third year the fruits of my labour are starting to show.

my plan for the next five years will mean that i should achieve that better standard of living, and am achieveing it, if i pay off my mortgage in the next couple of years, then thats great.

you have to work hard to achieve the goals in life, whether that be in work or play.

the work -- personal life balance is a difficult balance to achieve and maintain all of the time, ive seen people start there own business, and within 18 months are back working for an employer, cause that either couldnt hack it, or didnt have the drive to motoivate themselves.

regards

martin

ps oh and if i make a million in the process, then my children will be sufficiently provided for in future years, its a tough world out there, and its going to get tougher.

but the main thing is that you have your health, a good life and that you enjoy what you do, cause if you dont then you might as well not bother.

justin, your young enough to do the hours and reap the rewards but be careful, you WILL look back and wish that you had seen more of the kids and wife, i was in the print industry in a former life and worked all the hours i could, i wish i could turn back the clock and could have seen more of the kids growing up but that said, at your age you need the money for mortgage, hols and all the rest so you'll do the hours no matter what us old f**ts tell you, TRY to take some time off and don't feel guilty about it.

Hi Colin,

I have been working mega hard, as you know I have 3 lovely children and a beautiful wife to look after, the other thing is as we all know next week I could have a few quite days, so it is very difficult to find a balance. I have just put the 3rd van on the road so if I take my foot of the pedal to much we will all suffer. Oh well shouldnt moan as its been said we all do ot for a better life, and like most I really enjoy the job.

Cheers

justin, you are right on the button there, the main thing is that when you are busy and everything is going well, it's a damn good way to earn a living, i wake up every monday morning and wish i had won the lottery and could stay in bed but do you know what? by monday lunchtime i'm into the swing of it and loving it again! i think the thing is that when you are quiet, don't be scared to have the time off and enjoy it, don't feel guilty, as for the age thing, i'm 35, or that is how i feel anyway!!!
