pressure washing sealing
« on: September 05, 2007, 06:05:27 pm »
i need a pressure wash a block patio 55 square metres. I can price the jet washing, but the sealing is a problem.

I understand i have to wait until its completely dry, then apply the coats. But how long will it take, how much should i charge, and do i need more than one coat?

oh yeah, and there is some oil on the blockwork, been there for a couple of years, anyone know of any chemicals to use to get it up?

thanks guys!

hi
the oil i doubt you will remove totally.
as for the sealing it all depends on what type of sealant your using !!!!
you cant go for a one coat application or some require two coats!
and it depends where you buy it from!
have a look at www.swiss-seal.com

thats quite pricey.

So if i seal a job thats 55 square metres it'll cost £50 for the chemicals.

How much would you guys charge for the job, and how long would it take?

if you spray it on about 30mins max. thats form start to finish including cleaning up.
i have not sealed a patio as yet but block paving is anything from 2.50 to 10 pound a sq mtr it all depends on the sealant resiblock is most exspensive.
ps
i try not to push the sealing to much cos you can get another wash out of the customer in 10-12 months. if you seal it you all so cause probs if you come to wash it next time ie; stripping the sealer off

i have heard you can roll it on, i guess that would be less messy.  So if i say about £55 x 4 = 220. That would be a fair price for just sealing?
and about £150 for jet washing.

so thats £220 + £150 = £370.

Does that sound reasonable to you?

i would charge 110 to wash 25 to resand and 150 to seal but i would spray it on!
depends on the area you live as well!

to resand, is it a case of simply just brushing the sand in with a broom?

when you say £150 thats including the chemicals eh?

What would you say the time scale is beteen each stage?

i would imagine i clean first. then leave a day, then resand , then seal it, as long as its on a dry day

wickes is cheap for block paving sand...

dont forget a large soft yard brush.. makes life so much easier.....

to be honest i shy away from sealing.... by simply saying it leaves surface water after it rains.. and that can be dangerous in winter...

cos they are a pain to do unless you an expert... each one comes up different .. and each customer expects different results.

just my experience.

Gary.

I'm with you Gary.
Never offered sealing and probably never will.  IMO it ruins any repeat work from the customer.  Some of my customers I clean for twice a year.

But maybe I have read too many disaster stories when it comes to sealing and that has put me off
