My newly aquired CFR 500 Perfect-Heat has sprung a leak after a couple of hours of use after I bought it (second-hand.) Water is dribbling from the end of the numpty of the pressure adjustment valve at the rate of around about 100ml a minute.

Does this mean I need a new valve?

Not fully conversant with this valve. However it may just need a clean or new o ring. If it unscrews, unscrew it making note of which way the spring etc fits in. Give it a good clean and check any o rings.

Thanks for your reply. I have unscrewed it and there is a spring, and then a cap which fits over a plunger. There is no o-ring or seal in that part of the valve.

Give the suppliers a ring, they are very helpful and will advise you on the parts that you need.

mr j/b, be careful when using the 500, not to take it over 500psi it damages the pump/rings etc! i now that if you have purchased one from amtech & have taken it over 500psi, it invalidates the guarantee, do you have some sort of warrantee? amtech also service the machines, were they will pick up & drop off your machine, provide a full service for about £250- plus vat. freshi

Who on earth would design a hydraulic circuit that was capable of over-pressurising a component??? The first thing you put on a circuit after the pump is a relief valve set to blow off when the pressure reaches the limits of the pump - this is the first rule of hydraulic circuits! Are you seriously suggesting that these cowboys designed a circuit where the operator can damage the pump??? That's insane.

Sometimes I think these stories go around without much foundation.

Whether that is the case or not here I dont know.

but why do you need to go beyond 500 anyway - does a good job at that pressure AND LESS.

Do CFR build machines that have no relief valve protecting the pump?

I used to own a CFR 400 psi.

The pressure control numpty wouldnt let you open it up to more than 400psi.

But if you took the numpty off and turned a screw inside it would then go all the way up to about 600 psi.

I found this out by accident, when doing a repair.

If you want accurate info on your CFR phone the suppliers, they dont bite and the info is free !
