Anyone know how to get an inline to NOT trip the electrics in a caravan?

Last static I did only had a single 2.5 cable going into it- thats only 15 amp isnt it.Ran the speedster off it obviosly without heaters on. Theres not much you can do if theres not much power to tap into. Mike

Pete,

If you are working on a caravan site you have two options:-

The site owner will have upgrade fuses/trip switches for the fuse box in the caravan so you can run your machine, as the normal ones they use are very low rating for safety issues.

Or you can tap into the mains on the site, they normally have various sockets posted about the site for when they run there own machinery.


If you are working in one independant caravan then you will have to draw you're power from a neighbour, we've done this several times and just offer to give them a couple of pounds (which they normally decline  ).

This depends on whether the tripping device an overcurrent breaker e.g. a Miniature Circuit Breaker (typically marked at 5A to 16A on the case), or a Residual Current Device (marked at 15mA or 30mA on the case) ?  In the MCB case you will have to operate from another supply that supports the operating current.  In the RCD case you could do the same or use an appropriately rated isolating transformer - refer to a supplier.

Just to add to my last post, the "short blast" switch-on current (which could be quite large in relation to the average operating current) can be a problem.  Again, a supply or adaption capable of supporting this is needed.

pete, i do caravans now & again, i always get the receiption building to run off a extention, thats if its on a camp site. COME ON SPARTA!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a posh site Son, only ex Surrey CC's are worthy to work on this. The caravans get half an acre each. The site office was about 300 Metres away from the Mobile home (darling) and I ain't got no lead for that (nor enouogh trip hazard signs).

Transformers come with different specs and what suits one case may not suit another.  I would have a word with City Electrical Factors (CEF) and talk to them about the problem.   They have a branch in your area, so you can discuss your needs.

Hi Pete,

The only way to stop triping fuses is to reduce draw on your machine. Start by cutting off heater (as a little extra effort agitating will reduce need for heat, especially with splitters).

Then if that doesnt work reduce vacs (had 3 on last porty, try using 2, or 1!). Tell custy will take a little longer to dry!!

Turn pump pressure down to minimum required to complete job.

I ran my eclipse on single vac and really low solution pressure to complete a couple of jobs on caravan sites because of electric restrictions.

If you're doing enough caravans or end of tenancys where electric maybe a problem get a decent generator.
