One upside to doing shop windows is that people get to see you and your work and if you have a sign written van or even a t-shirt with the company name and logo it can generate other work

I haven't got either, but most of my work is from people seeing me in town.

I'm just off out to do my own shops, that's over £200 worth every Monday morning, almost entirely done WFP too.
I have shops and commercial stuff to do most days of the week, they are the backbone of my round.
It's taken me close on 25 years to get there though, and yes, they are hard to get hold of, cheap to clean too, but if you have enough of them they can be very good money indeed.

And as a result of being in view constantly with a signed van and logo'd polo shirt & cap I'm being constantly asked to quote residential work too

they are pants beware of the people who i wont reveal the sterotype but will have over  on in seconds and leave you fuming for months here it goes
you are cleaning a shop a shop keeper approches you and says can u do us..
you go to the shop and say yes five pounds ...they haggle and it becomes 3.50....
you clean away ,but every second you are being watched.

you finish but they  find a fault  a mark a stain or worse.then  can you do the sign? insides? upstairs?  ect  ALL no extra cost  natrually.you being nice oblige ..thinking extra work it will be easyer next week ect  you go in ask for money but seem to get ignored.ten mins later the manager is not there  no one seems to know who is in charge,custys come in get served you still wait .you get visiby angry
he then throws 2.00 at you and says hes not happy with the standard go away.
a year later forgeting its you he mugged off asks can you  clean my windows ? guess the reply
once after most of the above i was offered fried chickin instead of my payment not nice chickin greasy fowl looking stuff and seemed put out i didnt want his food i wanted cash
now heres the advice bit charge 15.00 fir ???st clean  you will be spending a lot of time on it i promise and your normal the next if they dont fit the sterotype charge the normal rate first time

I'm glad I've not had anything like this myself, but I would never dream of haggling, I give a price and stick with it, and any extra work is also charged for. They want the inside of the door done? That'll be an extra £1.50 and they get told before it's done too!

I never understood why people bothered with shops.  I knew someone who did them, and it ended up he was earning about £14 an hour on them, but with a lot of hassle.

Better to spend your time on good quality domestic if you ask me.

As for it being "social", no offense but if you take jobs because they are social then in my mind thats not a very good buinsess sense.  Better to take jobs that are good earners.  If you cant cope with being alone then your in the wrong job or get a partner to work with you.  Just my humble opinion.
