Dry Cleaning Fluid
« on: August 21, 2007, 10:49:01 pm »
As part of my annual snoop, I phone all the local carpet cleaners to compare prices. At the same time, in order to sound interested, I also ask how they do the carpet cleaning.

One guy was telling me that he uses a Carpet extraction machine but with dry cleaning fluid instead of water (I assume its a special machine) and that the carpets are dry immediately.

Can anyone describe this process as I can't imagine the fumes and associated problems.

Well it works like this

after 20-30 minutes his cleaner hired hand is on the floor dead, the customer thinks he's feeling the carpet to see how dry it is and noticing the bumps in it caused be the solvent delaminating the backing trips over and also inhales the solvents and dies, when the police come they say it's down to death by misadventure but the carpet is dry and all the spots have gone.

He could be telling porkies or where he'll be going wants free food, free digs and free no questions asked sex in the showers.

Hi

So what your saying is you ring the local carpet cleaners to see what they charge?

If they all charged £20 a room what would you charge?

Dave

PS I think Shaun's been sniffing Dry Cleaning Fluid !

Dave.

Noing what your competition is doing and charging allows you to understand your own positioning. If I'm doing a quote and the person found us in the yellow pages, chances are that they have asked atleast 2 or 3 on the same page.

If you know what they are charging then you are already in a position of strength.

Its not about pitching your prices exactly the same as every one else. For example 4 of the guys that I phoned yesturday where half the price that I charge. 6 others where about the same and 3 where completely over the top.

Now I know where I want to pitch myself.

Hope this helps
