My wife has gone and spilt the shampoo from her wash bag on the bedroom carpet,
any advise on how to get rid of it?

Many thanks

Will

i do domestic household cleaning, not carpet cleaning.

I scooped up the worst of the washing up liquid and threw it away. I had no idea wat to do with the carpet so i used a damp cloth to remove as much of the colour as i could, obviously this left a wet, soapy, sticky patch, but luckily this was a bathroom carpet and was right on a spot where the bath mat sits.

I just put the mat down........

The patch now looks incredibly yucky (not to mention sticky) but no one has ever said a word to me about it....

You need to extract the foam with water only first. You got any sort of HWE machine?

I have a Numatic George, i know thats a bit 'fisher price' but it does what i need (as i said i'm not a carpet cleaner). I thought that may be the answer (i have been told to put a bar of soap or a cap of fabric softener in the recovery tank to reduce the foam levels). However, this was a long time ago now, if the customer has the carpets cleaned will this hiccup of mine present a problem...?

Hi Bertie

if you dont have any defoamer   get some white spirits
and spray it on the spot befor exstraxtion it will kill the foam
but will  smell for short time only.
only spray on a small amount at a time so as not to do any damage to the carpet. Also put some in the weaste tank of your machine so it dosent foam up while doing the job.

Will be a small problem to any carpet cleaner but nothing that cant be sorted out.

Probably not mate but a pro will spot though I doubt its worth them mentioning as they can deal with no probs. Does the numatic George have a spray and vacuum element to it (sorry don't know model) if so just run cold water over till the whhiteness disappears (F*&k me how do you spell that). As for the stain you are looking at perhaps red rx (prochem) or some other natural dye stain spotter.

The other guys are right, but would start with water first.

You don't really want to be putting white spirit on a carpet for 2 reasons,

1. it could make the carpet bubble and permantly damage it as the backing would swell.

2. it would stink the house out and you could inhale it and go high and pass out.

I would use cold water to flush out the washuing up liquid as hoy water makes foam expand, leave it to dry and get plenty of air to it (not through a hair drier) and then have another go, it's patience with these stains.

I'm leaving it to a pro  ;D no one knows of my faux-par but me.

Pete, when you say 'element' do you mean in the sense of a heating element? If so then no, its just a wet+dry vac with water resevoir and electric pump. Its built by Numatic (same guys who make Henry and his brothers) and is a domestic-type extraction cleaner. Anyway, you add water to it at the temperature you want. It doesnt hold much water in one go (about 4 litres i think). I only bought it to spot-clean my carpets when the dogs have made a mess. It is also useful for sucking up water. I rarely use it really but when i do it is invaluable.

Sorry Stephen, the word element has thrown you off. I meant it in the generic way. What you have is sufficient. cold water rinse /extract (as many passes as it takes) will suffice.

Ah rite, cheers pete.

Off topic a bit, i had a guy here who cleans carpets for one of my clients. He had a huge green square cleaner machine which stood on the hall whilst he went all over.

I didnt pay much attention other than to see that it had 2 13amp plugs attached to two leads. Why was this?

Dont know about the big green machine......
I have a big maroon machine - about the size of a wheelie bin...its a Powerflite CFR500, it too has two 13amp plugs.
One is for the 2 vac motors and pump, the other is for the heater.
too much juice required for one 13amp plug.

Guys if you have no defoamer, then just use a bar of soap, In a bowl of warm water rinse the soap bar in your hands a few times and build up a lather in the water. Then add some of this water to the soapy area in you carpet and aggitate this will neautralise the soap, then put a dry towel over the area and put something fairly heavy on top and leave it for 24 hrs.

This is what i thought, however, the guy who came to me was using his machine on a 2-way adaptor which i thought was a bit dodgy as they can only supply 13amps max to ALL of the outlets combined, and not to EACH outlet individually. Seemed odd to me.
