LOTS OF QUESTIONS FOR ALEX GARDINER.....SORRY!
« on: July 16, 2007, 03:57:55 pm »
Hi Alex,  I have bought a 18ft preditor, but I don't like it because when I'm doing ground floor work it is too long. What 18ft pole is shortest when closed? How long will your telescopic superlite 18ft be when closed with brush and angle adapter?

I also have another question regarding a brush I bought on ebay. The jets don't seem very fine, the flow is quite thick, can I change the jets? also the hose wont stay on the jets, is there something to grip them, like a jubilee?

Another problem I find is the brushes twisting on their angle adapters, therefore I have to tighten up the angle adapter as much as possible but then the hose has to come around the pole from the back, any suggestions?  I think this might happen bacause I cant work face on to a window because the pole is too long when closed, so I work from an angle, but then it twists.

Oh yeah, I have a Brodex pro long 25ft with a trident gooseneck, but it doesnt have the german d type thread or vikan style so I cant take it off to use a normal angle adapter. Could you make me a thread conversion ( brodex to vikan style ) or should I chop the pole down a little and put a Vikan thread in and use one of your goosenecks?

How do your pole control flow things work?, because I want to be able to turn off the water within an arms reach, not having to walk back along the hose and turn it off. Do they go in a holster on the hip?

Thats all for now, and thank you very much for any help you do give me. I would have sent this in a personal email but I cant send you emails for some reason, thank you very much, Luke

I think it's a bit much to ask him all that Luke maybe some other forum members will chip in.

What I've found is, some of the things you buy aren't any good, or don't suit you. You have to buy more, but you always need a back up so you haven't wasted anything, just need something more suitable, and you don't know what is suitable untill you do the job, which would be now.

yes your right, if any body else could chip in that would be great. The most important question I have is regarding the pole though, it is far too long, I would like something that is more than a foot smaller ( brodex is 6+ft closed ). if something was around 4-5ft closed with brush and angle adapter that would be alot better, thanks, Luke

Yes. My Mini Pole is my favourite, its three part telescopic fibre glass 15' extended with a vikan rectangular flocked (that's flocked Luke and means split at the ends). I think it's excel and cost about forty five pounds.
Sometimes I do a whole house and stand on step ladders to do the upstairs. This also gives  me a better angle for doing the sills. I'm not suggesting anyone else do this, It sometimes is easier for over cons windows too.
You mentioned you are tall Luke that may have a bearing. I'm 5'9", but With a 15' pole and your height you could do most windows.

I've tried two smaller poles at different times for ground floor windows.  The one I'vew settled on is from Omnipole.  It's 2 x 3 ft with a 10" Vikan brush.  The pole hose is attached to the jets with o-rings.  I used to use cable ties for this but the jets can pop off under pressure - possibly damaging glass if you're unlucky.
I find 2 x 3ft about right for me.  The 2 x 2ft size was a little short on taller ground floor work if there was say a hedge in front of the window.

Hi Luke,

The shortest 18ft pole on the market at the moment is the 4 sectioned 17/18ft X-Tel fibre glass pole. It is very light and easy to use downstairs. The shortest telescopic Super-Lite will be a 20ft and it will be 5' 6" long when un-extended.

Is the brush you're referring to the Ionics multi-pole brush you had pictured the other day? if it is then I believe that some have manged to push a short piece of tubing up the nozzle to reduce the flow rate. A better solution would be to drill new holes and fit some new jets. We sell jets, y pieces and hose that would then simply push fit onto your pole hose.

The problem with the brushes twisting and putting strain on the outlet hose is one that we have got around with our 'hose-through' pole ends and adjustable necks.

The best way to solve the trident head issue is to contact Brodex and get them to put a commercial head screw on it. Alternatively you could chop some off and glue in an end screw if you wanted.

I tend to work with the Pole valve in my hand (well a section of the hose just above the valve in my hand which allows you to still hold the pole as well) this way it is always close to hand. Some do use a holster I just cannot be bothered with such things!

I hope that this has been of use.
