Collecting /Cleaning / Purifying Rainwater
« on: June 16, 2007, 06:48:17 am »

In my workshop / back garden area in next to no time I`ve collected 1000 liters
Of  rainwater with a reading of  2 ppm which amazes me but that’s what it is.
From the taps of the water butts where its caught and stored, can anyone recommend
Anything that could be attached to the tap before being transferred to the 25 liter
Containers.? What I`m thinking of is perhaps a filter /cartridge to catch what few and
Small particles of dirt that there is.Also could it be done whereby it would bring down
The tds reading from the present 2 ppm to a zero reading ? Thanks for all comments
Help and advice.

Lewis,

I would use a 2 stage DI setup:

1 x 10 " 5 micron sediment filtre then
1 x 10" 250ml DI cannister.

OOOO........................just remembered :D

A Mate of mine, comes on here occasionaly - Phillip Thomas.
He stores his water out of his Merlin in rain butts at about 4ppm and he has got an old pair of tights, filled em with old resin and dropped it in the butt.  Apparently it has brought the water down to 000 ;)
Yes he does DI in the van just to make sure, but worth a try ;)

Hi David, that sounds like an idea to go for. What is `old resin`.How does it
Differ to new? I`ve no experience with resin at all.Up to now I`ve just switched
On my 300 gall. Per day R.O. unit and made water that way.Have you any idea
Of what the cost / economy outlay would be doing it your way ? thanks.
