Mike you asked some one who knows what they are talking about to jump in with an answer, so I did.

I have gone out on their behalf and cleaned half finished carpets, customers do claim against the hirer for damage they have caused.

If you choose not to believe this then theres nothing I can do about that. ::)

I have qualified the answer with personal experience and my experience of dealing with claims on a large scale, you simply do not want to accept it because its me who's giving it, thats fine by me.

But if your going to answer everything I say with
'that's crap' at least try and have something useful to add after that backs your claim to have knowledge on the subject, which you clearly don't.

enough said.

John,

I spoke to one of the guys a my local cleaning supplies and mentioned to him that they pulled out of hiring a few years ago.

He said they had decided to hire again but only to DOMESTIC customers and not to TRADE, as these were the people who recked their machines :o

Cheers,

Doug

Cheers Doug.

Will just keep it on the back burner just now. May do it in the future, then again might not.

Its caused a bit of debate amongst everyone though eh?  ;)

John,

You hiring out a machine is a bit different to say Homebase, its easier to sue you than a big DIY store.

If for example you were a Tree Surgeon would you hire out a Chain Saw, (pretty sure I wouldnt), but the big hire companies are probably heavely Insured and have very well written Terms & Conditions and are set up as specialist hiring companies.

If you sell Electrical equipment or Plumbing equipment it is different to hiring them out, hiring means its your property

A lot of people probably could do a decent job cleaning their carpet, its the few that dont.

Try it if you think it will work, be interested to know how you get on. Personaly I wouldnt want the hassle

Mike will probably lay into me again now. :'(

John Mc

Thank you for putting me wise... I see now that I all I have to do is go on a two day training course to be a Rocket Scientist/Carpet Cleaner... so that's where I went wrong!!!  ;)

Derek, I thought more people would have took the bait than just you  ;D ;D

Twas an exaggeration to prove a point same as John B's scalpal example.

The general feeling seems to be a fairly big "NO" for hiring out. I totally respect the opinions of everyone on this forum. After all there is a wealth of experience here and as a newbie your ideas and thoughts are greatly appreciated.   :D
