I am looking at the best ways of applying carpet protecting, any tips for the most effective results?? and does it pay?

Make sure carpet is conditioned prior to application ie. just cleaned or pre-sprayed with something Fibre and Fabric rinse (prochem). Don't over apply, brush it in and make sure customer stays off while it dries as footsteps can create sticky patches. As for whether it pays you need to do the maths. I charge 50% of net clean price which usually amounts to a decent bit of extra profit.

Went for £100 but they knocked me down to £300 all in. That's at least £65 for 20min work. So yes it is worth it. Ask on every job where it's suitable and approprioate.

Quite often I ask on the job rather than at the quote stage.

Not that big really, probably under 35ft long.

It's all cream, wool, spotted some draught marks and some make up in the bedroom. I won't rush it and spend time talking to the customer. It works for me and this type of  customer who I spend time finding and cultivating.

Interestingly if I do a search on yell.com, my area comes up with 20 CC it is tough, but I find I get this sort of price 3-3.5 time out of 5 quoted jobs. So there's the trade off perhaps.

I don't understand how some people charge so little for protector it cost about 10-15p a sq ft last time i was looking at getting some, so say your cleaning price is around the averade of 25-30p a sqft if you only charge 50% of the cleaning price for the protector then you are not making anymore money. Please somebody correct me if i am wrong but i think alot of people don't understand this.

I use Craftex stuff. It costs £70 for 5l and you make it up 4:1.

Some jobs I will charge less than 50%, because I want the customer to have it if it suites their needs, easier to clean next time and I think they have reached a price threshold at 50 % extra.

As the time involved to apply is minimal even £10 profit is worth it.

we  use extracta stain guard , is about £35.00 (think they were the cheapest i'd seen !) for 5L and again is diluted 4:1 so works out fairly cheap really, we charge 40% of cleaning cost!
