What's in a name?
« on: May 06, 2007, 08:49:59 am »
God, I'm having trouble with this! What to call my new cc company??? I've been banging my head against the wall for weeks.

I like the idea of a name conveying the fresh / dry / bright sort of thing, rather than just something like 'Swindon carpet cleaning'. My favourite name on this forum is 'Fibrefresh'.

But it just won't click! So here's a good question - if you were starting from scratch now, then apart from the name you're using what would you call your business?

By the way, I think I'll avoid my friends suggestion - "DIRTY SHAG"!!! - it'd definately get you noticed mind!

I spent ages picking my name, if i did it all over again id possibly add Rotherham (where i live) into the title somehow.

I chose "Southern Cleaning Services" as it allows me to expand into other cleaning fields in the future... If I had chosen "Southern Windows Cleaners" then I would have had to have chosen a new name in the future.

Whats wrong with Heritage Cleaning anyway  ???

owen, i live in swindon myself but work all over wales and the west on large commercial contracts so do about 40k miles a year and so see loads of signwritten vehicles.the only ones i remember are the ones with a good symbol or something amusing.loads of stuff on the van doesnt get read.your heritage sign looks really good if you are aiming for topnotch(and money) jobs but owen the carpet cleaner and a picture of yourself would work i think as it is straight forward and honest.

Thanks for the replies guys. My business at the moment is general commercial cleaning, but my plan is to go into carpets, both domestic and commercial. The reason I was avoiding 'Heritage' was that I thought it sounded a bit 'stuffy' and possibly coveyed an image of old buildings / stately homes which might be off putting. Do you see what it mean?

Am I wrong??? I suppose if the name works at present I should stick with it

Do you know what i have been thinking the same thing recently my business name is cxxp its just my initials i couldn't be bothered when i started up to think of a good name cause i thought i might not like it over time. I think chosing a good name must take quite a while and i'm kinda thinking i wish i had spent the time to think of something better then i have now.
regards

Get some geographic reference in your title. You'll pick up customers for simply being 'local'

I am ProDry thougt it would be good for business, but most people who reconise the name similarity say that the original are cr$p.

Sometimes a name can cause problems, we use more than one name, the most common one being BRIGHTER HOMES which, unfortunately, is also used by a rogue shopfitting outfit, who never pay their hotel bills and don't have a Y/P presence, so we get regular calls from irate hotel managers.

We also use "clean'n'dry"

Quite honestly, the name, chem dry, does nothing for their marketing it was based heavily, on Bubbles and a cartoon character !!!

Be memorable, or stimulate interest !

There is one round here called Mr Bubbles. (Not recommended !)

Actually, you are right to worry about your business name its more important than a lot of people realise. So is your choice of vehicle, graphics on your vehicle and smart work clothes. Image is everything.

Saying that, I like Heritage, it conveys solid and reliable. I take it you've already rejected Splash & Dash then?
