Spain!!!!!!
« on: February 28, 2007, 06:39:02 pm »
Hi Guys
I am just after your thoughts really
I have been wc for about a year now and I have managed to get a very decent and well paying domestic round together.
I am collecting my new wfp on monday and looking forward to it making me a little quicker.
Now my girlfriends parents are moving to a very remote part of spain in june and want us to go with them rent free etc!!!
Now there are 7000 villas and apartments there and intend to take my wfp over there with me. We have been over there several times and after getting to know some local brit ex pats have been told a window cleaner would be welcomed as there is only one older guy who does it for beer money!!
So do I sell up and try and make a go of it out there or not?????
Is anyone on here working in spain and could email me how they found setting up out there?

Cheers

there is a lad on another forum out there and the watere has to fiter is over 1000TDS... :o

also window cleaning is not seen in the same light as here...very laid back about when it needs doing etc...plenty of "not today, call back in April"

Lots of shutters and metal rails cross windows and hundreds of balconies.

you would have to think about alternative empoyment to run alongside and lower your pricing strategies.

Hi

I moved from Sunny Yorkshire to Sunny Cyprus  8) 2 years ago and started from scratch.
Had never cleaned a window in my life before starting here. It started slowly at first but now i have had to employ another man and we're slowly building a second round for him. Very hard work in the height of summer.

Try adding other services such as pool cleaning and gardening. All regular work and repeat business.

Water here is 370 TDS

If you're young then go for it! (If you get on with your prospective in laws)

It's a game of three halves!

1 - sort out a trad cleaner to do your own work on a 6month contract, he pays you 25% of the round.

2 - go for it, if it doesn't wor at least you can come back home to the work you already have.

I think thats in the Murcia region. I have a place out in Almeria and there are always people asking on the forums I use for window cleaners, cleaners and general property maintenance. What they really need is somebody who lives out there willing to look after things whilst they are in the UK working to pay for there place in Spain. I am sure you could make a decent living out of it although I expect you would be busier in the summer than the winter months. Have a look on the various viva sites to get an idea. Viva Almeria site has most members, viva murcia is new but there are certain to be other sites.
