Need urgent help!
I've been asked to quote for a school but not sure how to charge. I only do domestic houses (apart from one commercial) and I normally earn anything between £25 - £40 per hour.
What hourly rate should I aim for? I dont want to be too greedy therfore I want to quote realistically

Just have a  look around give in your price and see what happens dont be too expensive tho!

Iv done loads these over the last 2years and they allways take less time than esitmated putting my hours right between 30 - 40 per hour.

is it ground floor?

Ady, just charge your normal rate, if its all easy access for you then maybe knock a few pounds off (the extra money will go towards kids books etc), you'll find that commercial work pays more anyway as there is very little stop-start.

Bear in mind that most schools are done each term or twice a year so there is much more muck build up on them between cleans.

I do one every 3 months (next wednesday when they are off ) I charged them what I would per hour plus 20% .
It  only takes us  about 5 hours to do and we get a full days money for it. Plus  we can still go and clean some domestics as well

John, why do you charge extra for schools - where's your community spirit?

I'm with JM - just charge your normal rate, schools struggle for cash more than most.

Unfortunatlley the kids like to spread things on the windows
It takes longer to clean a ground floor window , than a 1st floor one
I will take a couple of pictures  next week and you can see the kind of things they do .

if you are cleaning the insides just think about how much crap the stick on the windows, especially if its a nursery or infants school. I have found it takes a long time taking things off the windows, and putting them back on again!

Hi all,

Just for the record school funding is directly related to the number of pupils that school attracts. They have budgets for miscellaneous projects such as window cleaning like everyone else price will be the decidng factor.

Also they have no hesitation in charging you to watch your child in the nativity play or any other event they care to put on. School budgets are alot more healthy than joe public is lead to believe.

ive recently stoped cleaning our local junior school,they insist i get a ladder and working at hight certificate,even though i have tried to explain to them i use a van mount wfp system,but they want a certificate anyway

if you can get good money go for it,but i was cleaning 3 story school for only £80,insisted thats all budget would allow,so not a job im crying about loseing

3 of my schools have banned me from ladder work last year, so just wfp now, phew, they are all 3rd story schools, about 4 days work at 1 of them,

i have been cleaning this for about 6 yrs with no probs about risks, but luckely the site manager is sensible,
