Can someone who has coated their own van floor for wfp please help with my predicament

I have just had my van written off this evening so will have to lease one pretty quick...I have had my own van done by speedliner but know it can be done diy. Can you please let me know if you have done your own and at what prices

Sorry about your van, mate.

I've seen Ian_Giles's van; he speedlined his with a kit (I believe) he purchased from Aquatech (Peter Fogwill).

Hopefully he'll reply to this post tomorrow, once he's recovered from the thrashing I gave him this evening in the squash court.

Protectacote i've now done 2 vans great stuff. if you have some left over dont bother keeping it it WILL go off mine did twice 1st time lost 2 litres  its easy and i quite4 enjoyed doing it.

I protekoted my van a year ago, Fiat ducato, I bought a 4ltr tin and I had loads left.

I just protekoted my sons van 2 weeks ago. A fiat Doblo van, I used 2 ltrs, great stuff. I think if you have it speedlined you are a mug or have money to burn.

2ltrs of protecakote cost me £30 +vat from reachandclean. The stuff stinks mind you, You have to do a good job of rubbing the van floor down, thats the key, You want to remove all the glossy paintwork, If you leave it Glossy the paint finds it hard to stick to it.

Just use a 2" brush, dab it on dont try and paint it on. Use the wifes food mixer to stir the paint and wear a mask when doing it. Blacks the best colour.

Speedliner is considered the tops, but it is by far the most expensive option and is best done by those that know what they are doing.

Protectakote is ok, easy to do DIY but is nothing like as hardwaring as Speedliner.

There is a third option, which is the one I took.

Prior to speedliner, the method considered the best was Fibreglass.

As Tosh said I go my kit off Peter fogwill...I think it was around about the £100 ,mark.

Easy enough to do DIY and it is VERY hardwaring.

Downside of it is that using fibreglass is real messy and the stink has to be believed, your van will pong of the bloody stuff for weeks (I got to quite like it )

I'd sure as heck recommend it though.

I dont think that is the case, I have spoken to people who have paid for someone to Proffesionally speedline their vans. The hose reels have fallen over when doing an emergency stop and cracked the speedliner floor.

They started to use protectakote as a cheaper alternative and they have found it to be more hardwearing then speedliner.

I am not an authority on the subject, but just relaying some information I came across when researching what to put down on my van floor last year.

I put protecakote on my van floor and its as good as new after a year. In fact I claened out the van last weekend and inspected the van floor in great detail, It looks the same as a year ago no wear and tear at all.

In the unlikley event of a repair haveing to be made, its very cheap. Rub down the area that needs to be repaired and paint. £15 for a ltr tin. Cheap enough.

Protecakote is a no brainer for me.

Nel, there are always exceptions that probe the rule

I see by your photos that your gear is all clipped in place, wear and tear for you is relatively minimal.
I know a husband and wife team who have a full van mount system, but also use a pair of Omnitrolleys for most of their work, and the rolling around getting them in and out wore through the protectakote in several places.

Speedliner is I think arguably the hardest wearing, followed by fibreglass.

Repairing fibreglass is also a very easy job.

If you have heavy stuff rolling around in your van, or are using trolleys and so on, then go for something that will take heavy punishment.
If, like Nel, your van is going to be well organised, hose reels clamped in place and so on, then go for the easier and cheaper option of Protectakote.

It all depends on what you need

Good point about the trolley and stuff being thrown around and wearing out the surface.
The floor lining that came with my box trailer system didn't last two weeks - I don't knowwhat it was because the promised replacement tin never arrived.
Have now scraped it all off and painted car underseal with waxoil all over the floor.Does the job and only £2-£3 a tin.Its more durable but has still worn away where trolley sits.
Might stick some sort of metal plate or something on top of the undersealed floor.

I bow to your reasoning Ian.

My hose reels are fastened to the van floor, Nothing moves or slides around at all in the van. I have a backpack, but that never moves in the van because of how its positioned.

I only stand on the van floor when I open the side door so I can take my ladder clamp off if I need my ladders. Thats as much greif as my van floor gets.

I suffer the Misapprehension that I think everyone uses there van the same as me.

Granted some will give the van floor far more grief then what I do, So I should not use my floor as a good example of a hard wearing floor.

I often commenent on my own experince or from what I have heard.
