Any particular type of micro splitter ?

Would you use the wool safe type?

What do you find is best to condition the leather with?

You do not need to 'condition' leather as the water will do this, what you need is a protector to protect the finish.  Conditioners that contain oils and waxes will leave a residue on the surface which will attract more dirt.

Microsplitters may well work OK on leather but there are still no long term results as to what they do to the finish.  Unless you know the potential harm a product can do and know how to check to see whether anything is happening how do you know it is doing no damage?  Why not use products thta have been tested properly and for years on leather so you know they are OK?

What do you do after cleaning leather with m/s?? Rinse the leather with water then dry it with a towel? or is this not neccessary?

I used to clean with MS but it can take the finish off, I would advise you to look at what the suppliers sell ie LTT and Furniture Clinic they offer a foaming cleaner which acts as a lubricant when cleaning and you don't even need much and the water usage is less so no mess, I can even clean a suite quicker with foam.

I know Roger Koh uses quite alot of cleaning agents but I don't believe that most are required for alot of the UK market I would recommend for Xmas that you ask Santa for a training day at LTT it's worth the money ....but only if you've been good.

Shaun

BTW I went to repair a leather suite cleaned by god knows what by another cleaner he peeled of the finish and it looked like the leather was coming off and he fled the customer thought it was recked but because of good training I cleaned it and re applied finish and got a tidy sum. (Judy and Andy have come across this cleaner once before the guy who told your sandwiches were rubbish)

Could you name specifically which product to get, and also what type of cloths is best to use, just a terry towel? thanks

I use Ultra clean applied through a foaming bottle and aggitated with a sponge and wiped with towels, I find that an averagely soiled leather suite which are usually bigger in size than a fabric one but with less cushions or sometimes none can take only an hour, I bet Robert has got it down to 45 minutes but he's a competitive scotsman ;D

Nasty ballpoint-ink stains, tenacious blue-jeans dye-transfer stains or greasy and oily stains build-up that fills the valley of pastel colored leathers will be problems of the past.

This thicker than honey pH 7.7 strong prep cleaner does it all for removing all foreign contamination to the topcoat.

I just simply agitate and spread this thick “honey gel” and stretch it as thin as possible for an even coverage.
It will not streak as it is as sticky as honey.
And I can let it work as long as I like even leaving it for one or two days sometimes with even better result on those nasty ballpoint ink.

Step 2 is to spray a pH 3.8 leather-safe all purpose cleaner and extract.

What do you think is Step 3?

Cheeky basket

I love cleaning leather Shaun and have tried just about everything including m/s and colloidals, but mainly with foam and a variety of brushes / sponges.
If I spray m/s I'll have run over each cushion with a wet towel first which overcomes the streaking problem.
Only fixed cushion and lightly soiled suites in 45 mins more like 60 mins for a clean although I did one last week which had been " cleaned " with a variety of wipes, think one type was full of lanolin.
