longer hose
« on: September 09, 2006, 12:51:08 pm »
Is it practical to extend a portable hose to twice the length...IE: 21ft to 42ft ?....or would there be issues with the pump?....Im killing my back carrying portables upstairs all the time...been off for a week now.

Jesus, you must have arms like Popeye.
I only ever hump my Extracta machine upstairs in very extreme circumstances ( 3 / 4 stories ).
Ive been cleaning upstairs bedrooms and connecting 2 hoses together for years and there doesnt seem to be a great loss of suction/pressure.
Results are just as good.

Hi,
I regularly use upto 100 ft of hose on me extracta and hardly any loss of suction, in most cases I just leave it at the back of my truck, no need to move it anywhere.

It's a bit heavy to move up and down stairs anyhow :o

Steve(carpet doctor) I also have started to leave my machines in vans but only on custys drives. Am wanting to leave em in full time but am concerned about pedestrians tripping over hoses etc. How do you get around this problem? Have thought about having a ramp made for electric scooters etc?

Damian,

You can use the standard ramp that truckmount users use, there use to be a guy on ebay that sold hose ramps at a reasonable price, I use one of these and a couple of the safety signs and never had a problem,

Most good suppliers will sell them

Scott a 15 meter hose extension is about 210 quid depending on where you shop? May get some cheaper but i suppose it depends on quality etc and if you use a heater and pump pressure? For servicing i always have a spare machine so if one goes down i transfer hoses and carry on with job-then ring a superb technician who lives near me and he collects and sorts it out, brings it back all sorted and dont charge a lot either-BONUS!!  ;D Hope he doesnt look at this forum tho as he has one of my machines now and prices may go UP!?  :-\

Any decent portable should run 50foot, i run 50 as standard and extend to 75foot when needed.

There's guys on here with top end portables that run 100foot as standard.

By decent portable i mean, minimum of 2vacs and 100psi, if yours is any less than that, dont get a second hose, and if possible you really need to think about changing machine.

If it is, then 50foot should be fine and that will do most houses with the machine left at the front door.

Red, have you been looking at the new scorpion super 3? they are quoting over two hundred foot of hose and 326cfm!!  :o I emailed them over weekend and they say its totally safe for electrics here. Me being a patriotic Yorkshireman am tighter than tight and it looks to suit my business to a tee-plus i can drag it off van for comm jobs where no parking-regular!! looks a good bit o kit at fair price! I may have to reach under the mattress?  ;D

I havent no, im sick of portables, to much like hard work for me iv just ordered a t/m.

The fully loaded ninja reckons it can run 400ft though and thats the one i would be looking at if getting a new porty, dont think it would manage the full 400 myself but im sure it would comfatably do 100+

Please lads 100ft on a portable.  Sure you still have 'suck' but job quality is reduced.

Portable at 50ft is on its limits for decent quality of work.

Mark

PS. Ive owned 4 portables and used the Scorpian and the Eclipse and while you could maybe only maybe use them at 100ft any more IMO is reducing the finished result.  I can notice a good difference on a TM at 200ft!
